Awesome. Now maybe some of these posters who have been complaining about no changes will shut up! Of course they won't because whining and complaining is all they are good at!

Hoke was the CB coach for a Chicago Bears defense that was absolutely putrid and would make George Halas roll over in his grave. Gasoline to a fire?

Well this is ironic. Whining and complaining about whining and complaining.

Anyway, great news! Hope there's more.

I'm glad we got him because he's been in the pros and must know something. Seems to have gotten a lot of interviews over the years as well so teams have shown interest. Doesn't seem like a great get for recruting, but I'm okay with that. Not everyone is suited to coach and recruit. Even if he's a good recruiter, he's been away for a while and likely doesn't have a lot of connections in the area.

With all of that said, I know the fans down in Florida didn't like him at all when he was there with Spurrier. At this point, though, any one new is worth a shot and likely an upgrade. This can only help us.

Bosox you're gonna love this one.

IF a signee were to have a problem with Hoke being on staff. And that's a very SLIM possibility. Could he get out of his LOI? I'm pretty sure I know the answer and it's no. Then why wait until everyone has signed? I know every school does it. But it doesn't make it right. Are you telling me that in the midst of a hectic final week of recruiting that the Hoke deal just coincidentally got mentioned today? Again, all of the recruits may be thrilled with this but the thought that some may not be probably led to the timing of this.

No. 5 defense and gave up 14 pts a game in 2001 under Hoke

My four year old would be a better defensive coach that what we have now.

I didn't say it made sense. I said they didn't like them. Perhaps I was too vague. Some people didn't like him. That's from memory and a guy who was on the board a few weeks ago. I could be wrong though. Probably shouldn't have said it at all, so i apologize.

Either way, I'm happy to have him.

I guess. He has consistently been in the pros since he left Florida so that has to say something about his abilities I hope.

An experienced defensive coach who coached NFL players is a huge get for us. He knows what it takes for college athletes to be successful in the NFL, as he coached in the NFL. I'm excited for this potential hire.

Let's wait until we know he's here for sure. Remember Van Gorder, and more particularly, Bobby Cremins.

Judson,
No getting out of LOI.., mostly the adults ( coaches ) are to blame for the underbelly of recruiting. kids are kids ...the adults should know better. i.e. pulling offers like Petrino did, etc, etc.

Hoke shouldn't make a difference to the recruits, its IF some coach leaves the program ( on his own , since Spurrier said he wasn't going to fire anyone...yea, yea, leave on his own, wink, wink ).. that I would have a problem with just after recruiting is over

USC wasn't going to announce Hoke as coach, prior to signing day for fear that other teams would use that against SC, saying if they add Hoke there would be a coach subtracted from staff... and "it might be your coach"

lol. The Pot-Kettle-Black Detector just exploded, the blast took out everything in a two block radius...

Gamecock site reporting a board member has confirmed the hire..

here is a cut and paste..

Former Steve Spurrier assistant coach Jon Hoke will join
Spurrier's staff again this week, a member of the USC Board confirmed on
Wednesday.
ESPN also is reporting the hire of Hoke.
Hoke
coordinated Florida's defense under Spurrier from 1999 through 2001 and
has coached in the NFL since 2002. His name has been associated with the
Gamecocks since last month.
"If there is a coach out there that I
believe can help us it's my job to do what is best for our team,"
Spurrier said this past month. "All of our guys are good coaches.
They're working hard. There is not going to be any big turnover or
anything like that."
Spurrier has said several times he doesn't
plan to fire any of his current coaches, so he would have to move an
on-field coach into an administrative role to make room for Hoke or any
other new hire.
In Lorenzo Ward's third year as defensive
coordinator, South Carolina fell to No. 94 in the country in total
defense in 2014, allowing more than 432 yards per game as the Gamecocks
finished 7-6.
Spurrier could not be reached immediately for
comment. He is scheduled to meet with the media at 4 p.m. to discuss
national signing day.
The USC Board of Trustees will hold a called
meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday, which apparently will include the approval
of hiring of Hoke.

Just like a recruit, we won't know until they get here and do something.

Maybe his new title will be CDC (Coordinator of the Defensive Coordinator).

Speaking of recruiting, I am stunned at the negative opinions on our recruiting.. SC has signed what appears to be very good offense line and defense line prospects.

One thing for sure, that's what wins in the SEC

I have consistently called our OL coach overrated, so no telling how these guys will progress.

I am guilty of this. I got caught up in the defections and failed to realize the talent we still had aboard. Perhaps it was frustration over the lack of movement on the staff and the defections gave me something to focus on. In any event, glad the new Gamecocks are here and ready to work.

This right here

While Key may turn out to be a good player, I will take Lewis, Blackshear, Sawyer, Wideman, Whitlow any day. No denying we lost some potentially good players but like others said, we signed some really good ones.

Sully, are you a fisherman? That "jack hole" bait you just tossed out seems to work better than chum. You can just snatch them up with a net now.
That worked almost as well as some of the "ignore" bait I've seen used on here. It drives them CRAZY.

This is impossible. Impossible!

I've been scolded endlessly by the FGF folks that everything was fine and that to suggest changes needed to be made meant I was an idiot. Now we have a major change? How can that be? Is Spurrier an idiot? He has to be.

All you people that called us imbeciles for saying we needed changes can EAT CROW.

lol, trying to spin that absolutely humiliating display as some kind of trolling victory (when everyone knows it was the usual hyper-dramatic histrionics sully is known for) might be the funniest thing I've read here in weeks

I see what you did there. Hell, a toddler could see what you did there. That's about the depth of ya JP. You're a puppet, a drone bee. Not an original thought in ya. Mindlessly consistent.

His title will be "defensive coordinators coordinator in charge of air traffic". A new box will be constructed a good bit higher above Wammy's perch in the press box. Hoke will have an even better view of the field as well as any aerial traffic in the area. He will coordinate with CAE and assist them in their business. Earning an extra $90,000 a year. I think that was the perk that got him to sign.

Right now it's simply an addition. Nothing has changed.....yet.

Negative. Hoke is running the show. He ain't passing up jobs in the league to coach defensive backs here.

Folks,

Please stop hijacking this thread or we can begin handing out blacklists. Thanks and hope everyone is enjoying the coverage.

I doubt anyone was not expecting changes after our defensive struggles last year. Most are probably just tired of listening to you.
