Holbrook = Ward

Ok, we have national championships and runner ups, but that's the past, how about the present and future? Can't be satisfied and rest on your laurels.

I agree USCandy, my point was we have a lot more to sell when it comes to baseball. Bama and others out recruit us in football for the same reasons we out recruit them in baseball.

Absolutely no basis for these absurd statements. Holbrook has a better overall and Clemson record than Tanner did at this point in his career, and don't try to say that they inherited different products, because Tanner inherited a program that had played for multiple CWS championships.

Searooster, where, exactly, are you seeing progress with Chad's program? I see good recruits going under-developed, just like with Carolina's football defense the last 2-3 years. So, Holbrook = Ward.

OK...honestly, you cannot compare what Ray inherited from June to what we had here when Ray retired. The last CWS for June was in 1985. The teams were at opposite ends of the baseball spectrum (no offense to any of the guys from 96 & 97 teams, as many are very dear friends).

Now...I do find it very comical that the usual suspects are here, calling for Holbrook's head after a loss, yet they are NO WHERE to be found when we win a game. But it's what I've come to expect from those few. They'll never change, and there is no talking reason with them. Oh well.

We lost a series to Clemsux. Does that suck? Absolutely. Fortunately, most of us understand that one series does not define a season. Nor does 2 years and 3 weekends determine if a coach is good or not. Some tough decisions need to be made as far as the guys we've got in the lineup, and with who we start on the mound (did NOT like the idea of throwing Reagan today). I hope the coaches play around with said lineup the next 5 games, see what works and what doesn't.

Friends who were there today say we showed up flat, similar to how we were in that Friday CofC game. Gotta be up for all games. But if we're going to have a few bad games, rather have them now than in May/June. Baseball is as much about being good and having talent as it is about getting hot at the right time and having just a little bit of luck on your side. It's a marathon, not a sprint. There's lots of baseball to be played.

And for the love of all things baseball...can we end Mincey's suspension already????

A greater level of improvement than I saw with Ray Tanner's first 2 years as Head Coach, considering that in his first 6 seasons from 1996-2002 he failed to make the CWS even 1 time. Actually, to date Holbrook has shown considerable improvement over Tanner in his first 2+seasons at the helm, with a higher overall winning percentage overall and against Clemson. Actually took Tanner 14 years to win it all.

Point here being that you can't make a fair evaluation after 2 seasons, if so nothing Ray Tanner accomplished after 1998 can be included.

I disagree. I'm glad Ward is not going to be our DC this season but how soon people forget we'd have been 10-3 if Spurrier hadn't gone "full retard" and started passing the ball in 3 games.

Batgirl THANK YOU! It gets so OLD when same ones show up with same ole crap if we loseBUT never ever show up after a win. When we won Saturday did we hear from any of these posters and how much they hate Holbrook? NOPE. It is like they couldn't wait for our gamecocks to lose so they could quickly post the same crap

I totally disagree. Lorenzo doesn't have full control over the football team, recruiting, etc. That would be Steve Spurrier. I think comparing Spurrier to Chad is a better comparison.

What? That was in the 70's.

Yes it has declined every since Holbrook took over, just like our defense in football. The only program that is at top notch now is the women's basketball.

The man is in an unenviable position. Replacing a legend and maintaining the success of a program coming off 3 straight national championship appearances is no easy task.

That said, Tanner is a NC State grad and Holbrook is a UNC grad.

If we had won on Monday nobody would have posted this. I guess one game out of fiftysome defines us.
Get a grip. Clemson is a pretty good team. It's baseball. Sometimes you lose.

A bigger qustion is whether Tanner is qualified to be AD? He will have some huge decisions coming up in the next 2 or 3 years regarding the 3 major programs. What if the football program does another 6-6? What if the basketball program doesn't improve next yeat to at least a NIT bid? What if the baseball program fails to go to a super regional this year? We will see what kind of AD he is...

Again, with all due respect, you cannot compare CRT's first two teams to CCH's first two teams. Completely different levels of talent and attitude. Even guys on those teams will admit that.

ostrich ???????
Nope, just checked the mirror and I'm pretty sure I'm not.

This is ridiculous.

Any weekend where Martin and Schrock go 4 for 24 or whatever was along with Schrock playing a poor second base we will struggle against just about any decent competition. You can't bang on Holbrook for those two not performing, they are experienced players who have played well in the past.

I do think the lack of energy is felt when the best players are playing poorly. Saturday we had a little pick em up with Bright, Destino etc....numerous chances Friday and nothing yesterday. Let the season play out.

Saying "We won the national championship" as an excuse for the slow, but steady and completely measurable, decline of our baseball program is misguided. So we won a couple titles half a decade ago. What does that have to do with now and the future.

I agree with the we won a national title so it's all ok doesn't fly (Gene Chizik at Auburn anyone?) However, just because we won a couple titles fans now act as if Omaha and winning is birth right which is also ridiculous. We have been to what 11 CWS and Tanner took us to 6 of them. And yes, Holbrook inherited a great situation but in this sport especially it is really hard to be as consistent as we have been.....we have seen Florida, Texas, LSU etc all stumble recently.

Getting thrashed by Clemson at home this early in the season doesn't bother me.

It was getting thrashed by $%^# Maryland at home the end of last season.

And before that, coughing up the SR in Chapel Hill in '13.

I don't expect Carolina to win the NC/make the finals/make it to Omaha every year, but what's happened the last couple of seasons is starting to look like a trend line, and for the first time in 15 years Omaha doesn't look realistic anymore.

This post is too stupid for words. Ask yourself this:

If Lorenzo Ward got fired, who in world would hire him as their Defensive Coordinator? Nobody.
If Chad Holbrook got fired, who would hire him as their baseball coach? Several schools.
