Spent some time watching a handful of Gamecock targets Monday afternoon in GG Jackson and Cam Scott and spoke with both after their games.
--Jackson is arguably the Gamecocks’ top 2023 target out of Ridge View High School and speaks pretty highly of South Carolina. He’s scheduled to take his third official visit this weekend to Duke to watch the Blue Devils play Syracuse. Then, he doesn’t have a concrete date in mind, but wants to set up an official visit to South Carolina sometime soon and said he wants that to be his last official visit. He’s already taken officials to Georgetown and UNC.
Chuck Martin is the assistant leading Jackson’s recruitment on South Carolina’s end and there’s “constant communication” between Martin and Jackson’s family, Jackson said.
South Carolina is firmly in the thick of it with North Carolina and Duke the other programs to watch as well. He’s been pretty open to the idea of staying home and said as much in public interviews. He’s been to South Carolina the most among the schools for unofficial visits, taking in multiple games this season including a neutral site win over Florida State.
--Scott is another who has been on campus multiple times since the summer, including for a game this season, and recently took a trip to North Carolina to watch a win over Georgia Tech. He’ll visit Clemson this weekend to watch the Tigers’ game against Pittsburgh.
South Carolina again is a program pushing hard the staying home aspect, which is something he’s listening to saying: “It’s home. It’s the closest D-I college to me and it doesn’t hurt to stay home. I agree. It’s right there. It’s a big NIL base, a big fan base. they bring a lot of attention to USC. That’s something they’ve been keeping in my head.”
Chuck Martin is the assistant speaking the most with him from the Gamecock staff.
--South Carolina will host an official visitor this week in 2022 guard Bryce Lindsey out of the DMV area playing for Saint Frances. The Gamecocks watched him in late December in the Chick-fil-A Classic where in three games he scored 45 points and shot 41 percent from the field and 43.3 percent from three.
His recruitment seems to be gaining a lot of traction entering 2022 with the Gamecocks being one of the schools trying to get in on it. Lindsey will be in starting tomorrow through Thursday. There's some connections there with South Carolina and Will Bailey is handling that recruitment after being on hand to watch him at the CFA Classic.
--Another visitor on the horizon sometime in the spring will be 2023 Rivals150 wing Comeh Emuobor, who has been on the Gamecocks’ radar for a while now. He visited unofficially in the summer twice (once for an elite camp) and picked up a South Carolina offer after impressing there.
He’s ranked the No. 129 player in the class and recently took a trip to Virginia Tech. Brian Steele, who does a lot of the South Carolina recruiting in North Carolina, is the one handling his recruitment as well.
