How did Ward look to you in the Presser

I doubt he keeps that title nor that salary as soon as his current contract expires.....Not sure what he will do after this season but I don't see him staying here past this year as he will likely drop down to a position coach and a position coach salary....

I have nothing but respect for Coach Spurrier but keeping Ward, Adams, Botkin and even Brown on staff after this years performance makes me scratch my head and wonder.......

If you don't want to fire them fine! They have contracts so you owe them anyway! Give them all jobs as the Quality Control Coordinator for Defense and pay them and park them at a desk someplace and keep them away from the players....

Go get what you need to fix the problems....Its not like you don't have the support of the Administration and Fans to do just that........

Anyway welcome Coach Hoke and good luck....most of us understand your working with a handicap with what you have in place....

I didn't see the presser, as I was listening on the radio, however.......I couldn't make out a single word Ward said.

He looked like someone called a JET SWEEP.......

Of course he didn't know what to do!

I think you guys are wrong..

I believe Spurrier sees potential in Ward.....i think if he didn't he would have put him in the street already. I think bringing in an experienced coach like Hoke will help him develop some of his young coaches who i think he likes.

I don't think we need to be in the coach training business. We need to hire coaches who know how to coach and win. Period.

Coaching at the college level is a difficult task and has a lot of moving parts. There is recruiting, player development, game preparation, in-game coaching ect. Usually coaches do not master all phases. Usually coaches will be great in some others and lacking in others. Good head coaches will try to balance there coaching staffs with coaches with different abilities. If you can get guys to mesh as a staff and you are able to work on there weaknesses, you might end up with a complete coaching staff. That is better than making whole sale changes Willie-nillie with no guarantee you will end up with a better outcome!

I do not know what Coach Spurrier sees in Ward,Adams, and Botkin but i am guessing he sees something....or they would be gone!

It isn't, but I reckon we're gonna uphold our end of the contract.

He looked like someone thinking: Glad to be hanging on by a thread, after all, no one else would have me after last season. Anybody out there with some Clowneys' and Gilmore's on their team?

Good post, and accurate.
Fans aren't terribly bright and certainly don't know anything about running a sports team. If their team loses, the only answer is "fire the coaches". Pretty basic, and lacking in any thought.

Ward is our life blood in recruiting. The state of SC has not produced too much talent the last 2-3 years. Without Atlanta area recruits, we'd never survive. That is what Ward brings to USC. He also knows the x's and o's of football.

He lacks program management skills. They can be learned, and rarely does anyone have those skills naturally. They are taught and learned. Hoke knows how to manage a staff, and will do well to get the most out of the coaches and players on defense.

Spurrier has the offense running very well, and we saw that last year with one of our best years of offense. He's in control of his staff and players. Hoke will be able to do the same for the defense.

Ward has a lot of positives. He certainly has some weaknesses. I applaud Spurrier for being able to identify them, and make some good decisions on how to correctly fix the problems.

Lastly, once Hoke gets in here and gets through Spring training with this group, I think we'll quickly see if there are any real problems on staff. I, like most, don't understand how a couple of the position coaches are still around.

Amen to that brother! If we want to win at a high level we don't need to be dealing with a coach in training, especially one that has not learned much... Apparently

If actually would have been there, he would have looked like he's not going down without a fight.
