How does Clemson lose 3 first round draft picks

Tater strength of schedule ranked #66. Top 5 recruiting classes for several years. Great assistant coaches.

Great players, well coached and playing a weak schedule should add up to a CFB playoff spot every season.

Success begets success.
When a team gets so far ahead of a competitor they get to give the 2's and 3's reps, well it just improves their depth.
"Next man up" just means more to teams like Alabama and Clemson.

Who was our defensive coordinator in 2012? And on 2014? Yup, same guy who like a genius with NFL talent in 2012 looked like an absolute buffoon in 2014.
^^^ Right. Most relived the 2010 Bama game leading up to this week. How many of those SCar D-backs played in the NFL? (rhetorical)

Fall of 2014 and this board was consumed with talk of defensive genius Will Muschamp replacing Whammy Ward. Why if we don’t open the vault to bring him in we aren’t serious about football!!! Well we got him and I ain’t seen *bleep*. And methinks I never will.

If you watch them he sends some type of blitz every play. There are ways to burn the hell out of them if you audible to the right play. Like screens and rb out of backfield

Yes there is generally a way to beat the blitz, but you got to think about the fact that it's easier said than done. It's easy for us to watch on tv (from an angle) and say "just hit that guy he's wide open!" but for the QB that is on level ground it can take some serious skill/talent/experience to beat a well-designed blitz, which Venables does well, for the most part.

Who gives a damn about the taters! F them. We need to continue getting better as a team & program but I have no idea why some of you love talking about the taters.
This may come as a surprise. But they happen to be our in state rivals that we have to not only play every year, but also recruit against in a state with a small population. That they are winning national titles and we have fans acting Muschamp is the Second Coming and Spurrier somehow Forrest Gump'd his way into owning our entire record book makes it even worse.

So yeah, how they do does have an almost direct impact on how we do as a program.

CU football recruiting has not been elite the past 5 years. Multiple teams including Bama, Ohio State, and Ga have consistently signed better classes. Over the last 5 years, CU signing classes have ranked 4/6/22/8/9. Bama has been ranked higher every year, and Ga/ Ohio State have been higher most every year. Heck, even FSU has been rated higher in 3 of those years. They have been recruiting well, but they have not been some recruiting juggernaut the way some have stated. Coaching, including staff stability is a huge reason for their success.

Coaching stability has certainly been a part of the success, but so has player evaluation and player development. Clemson has had better success at finding the diamonds in the rough than Carolina has.

Excellent post. Clemson’s average recruiting ranking over the last five years is #11. Even the national media acts like they have been Alabama on the recruiting trail. Not true until this year. If you look up team talent, they are ranked around 10. It should give us some hope that it can be done without top 5 classes.

They have a great HC and very good coordinators.

Uh, we did open up the vault. That wasn't the issue...two other things were.

Thought the issue with the 22nd ranked class was not the rating of the players they recruited but the number of the players they recruited. Thought that was a very small class for them. Look at the ranking for the avg star ranking per class and I think you will see a big difference.

EDIT: That 22nd ranked class had only 14 players with an ave star rating of 3.86....4th highest rated class in the country based on ave stars.

Clemson unfortunately, has reached the point where they simply reload talent. When you stack up four and five stars the talent is always there. Yes, USC has improved their recruiting, but they aren't recruiting players that are at the level the Bama, UGA, and Clemson recruits for the most part.

It amazed me that Najee Harris was a 5-star Junior that had been sitting on the bench the past two years behind 2 other 5-star RBs that are now in the NFL. Unbelievable talent.

Yup. They are self-sustaining now. Their success essentially recruits for them. Which in turn leads to more success. And on and on. Dabo has the perfect ecosystem going there.

You had them when Coach Morrison was here.
clemson likely were using them also during that time period. One of the side effects of PEDS is aggressive behavior or mood swings. In this video it shows clemson with some aggressive behavior after a loss to the Terps.
