I see that FSU has hired Lawling

Yea, Football Scoop seems to be pretty confident in announcing the hire. Huge letdown for many Gamecock that were hoping for his return. And many of us got our hopes up with some of Spurriers evasive comments over the last few weeks. Who knows, maybe he makes no changes at all as he appeared to be fine with the status quo with many of his comments before the new year. He's the coach. His deal. But in any case improvements better be very visible on the field. After a year like '14 Spurrier runs the risk of transferring from the icon that elevated a program to the guy every one wonders why he is being paid 4 million a year.

You are truly a fool if you believe any of this. It's been repeat ad nauseam on this board and others that Lawing will never return to USC.

And while there is no doubt Lawing is a great instructional coach, the landscape is filled with good/great DL coaches. I wouldn't be too quick to comment about anything concerning changes or what anyone thinks until we see if Spurrier actually makes any.

And as for Lawing to FSU, at least we won't face him in conference...though I do hope we get a chance to face him when the stakes are higher.

...and we sit on our asses watching...great get by FSU, and Miss. St., and LSU, and Auburn, and Michigan, and A&M.......etc..

It has to suck for Lawing's family.

Imagine being at that stage of your career and having to move around every few years - just uproot and leave.

Ellis Johnson is another one.

Both were set at USC - but both bolted and uprooted their families - again.

That stuff is ok for younger coaches just starting a family- but I can't imagine how hard it is on their wives to move like that over and over again - especially for Johnson who has young kids. That would suck bad.

It's been said that there were personal issues that caused him to leave Columbia in the first place, so I don't know why people think he would come back.

i think at this point......NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN.....get used to it

At least we know he has a STRONG dislike for Clemson! Wish we had him back but at least that's a positive!!

If no changes are made after signing day then the staff has decided that 6-6 with a bowl win is acceptable and 10-11 win seasons are not our expectations. I think you give them thru recruiting and then see if/what changes are made but to stand pat after the debacle that was our defense last year would be hard for fans to swallow.

The HBC is allowing things to happen like staying with the current pitiful defensive staff. He doesn't care as long as he's getting that high paid salary. Too many tee times in Augusta to worry about coaches and recruiting. Defense will be just as bad this year, count on it.

Coach Spurrier is a very competitive person, can not imagine him standing pat just to draw a pay check, he hates losing to much. Have to believe there will be some changes made.

Don't get sucked in by the adolescent rant of immature posters.

Where were all of you in 2013 when this same staff went 11-2? I guess all of you believe if we had a better staff in place we would have been 14-0 and won the National Championship! Guys it's all about the talent on hand and if you want to criticize their recruiting that's one thing but don't say they can't coach. With better defensive players on hand via this years class they should go back to once again being decent coaches. Even Muschamp could not have turned last years defense around as they severely lacked talent. It's all about recruiting!

Oh...I don't think the coaches are "sitting on their asses". I just think you weren't invited to any of the coaches meetings or included in Athletic Department discussions. Perhaps your level of self-importance has negated your ability at rational thought.

Bologna, our defensive staff can not coach. Couldn't stop a simple "wildcat" that Kentucky ran over and over. That is simply not being able to coach. Just wait and see what happens this year if our present defensive coordinator is in charge. We might beat Vandy but don't count on it. While we sit back and do nothing, all the ones that really care are making changes.

We're in good hands with Deke since he was hired in 2013.

Sack production over the last 3 seasons:

2012: 43
2013: 25
2014: 14

I think everybody could see even in 2013 that the product on the field was not as good as 2012, even though we had a great DL. Everybody used the excuse that the LBs were young.

Good for them for picking up Lawling. Does anyone know if we still have a shot with Lawing?

....sorry, this is FGF, someone had to...
