He’d be hired elsewhere, no doubt……..worse if he was, it would measure along with detrimental firing of George.Who would hire him? Is there another D1 school that would be interested?
Seems like that should be a metric for his continued employment in year 10.
He would be a tv analyst which is probably his ideal job.Who would hire him? Is there another D1 school that would be interested?

Women’s basketball is a different animal. I’d say Vandy went about as close to that route as we did hiring Jerry Stackhouse…someone known more for their playing days than coaching really. I think Dawn’s name recognition was huge and she was a good coach. She was probably the only person we could’ve hired that I’d know. But in the men’s game there are far more established programs and coaches that can recruit. In college…you kind of have 5-6 legends dominating the sport. While they play the same game…men’s BBall and women’s BBall are so different. We have the model to build a winner at South Carolina. Yes it can be done here! Dawn Staley has already done what most would say could not be done here back when Tennessee owned womens BB.
Maybe 10 years ago. I can’t imagine Frank on TV now looking like he does. Hide the kids!!!He would be a tv analyst which is probably his ideal job.
This is a hard no.If that happend, I think Miami would fire Larranga and Frank would end up at Miami as he has really struggled the last 3 years.
That's right. If it can be done on one side, it can be done on BOTH sides. UConn is a prime example. Duke has been another. North Carolina has been another. Baylor has been another. We have the model to build a winner at South Carolina. Yes it can be done here! Dawn Staley has already done what most would say could not be done here back when Tennessee owned womens BB.
frank was actually mentioned a few times with that job the past few years when Larranga and the program began to declineThis is a hard no.
On fan sites and the media, not within Miami itself.frank was actually mentioned a few times with that job the past few years when Larranga and the program began to decline
Bad coaches = Bad programs.Frank is respected and I do believe he’s a decent coach. He’ll go to a mid-major where there’s less pressure and recruiting is a lot more even for the teams he’ll compete against. He’ll do well that level and wouldn’t shock me to see him in the Tournament regularly.
Our job is a lot harder than anyone wants to admit, though the SEC is a great spot for us to climb sort of like Clemson in Football in the ACC. The problem is I don’t see much about our university, program, or facilities that would set us apart from schools like UF, Arkansas, Alabama, etc…to compete with UK. It’s possible, I’m just not sure we have anything that sets us apart. So we have to hit the jackpot and hire the right coach.
I don’t think we’ll find anyone that’s going to come in and land a bunch of 5* guys. The guy is going to have to know the game and outcoach a lot of other coaches. But no doubt we have to recruit better. We have to start getting the best players in the state, and not as transfers. Until we do that, we’ll stay in the cellar.
Like it or not, statistically we are the worst basketball program in the SEC since we’ve joined the conference. That should tell you how difficult this job is. There’s just nothing about us that is unique.
I like the way you think. Bob Richey at Furman has done well also. I think he’s under 40, seems energetic, and could likely relate to the kids in regards to recruiting. We all can agree that Frank ain’t the guy here.If Frank is gone after this year, I’d go hunting former NBA players who want to coach/are currently assistants. This isn’t always a home run (Avery Johnson at Alabama), but Michigan and Memphis are looking pretty good.
I’m not saying any of these are my number one choice, but if someone like Tyrone Corbin, Shane Battier, or Mark Jackson has the urge to be a college head coach, that might be our route to bring in top talent.
I can respect that Frank isn’t willing to get dirty, just like I could respect Spurriers refusal to obsess about coaching 24/7. But, if you are going to buck the trend of success, you better win in your own way. There is a lot of sleeze in NCAA men's basketball and we only saw a glimpse of it two years ago. Martin doesn't want to "play" the sleeze so he is "handicapped" somewhat. That being said he still should never lose to a mid-major like he did at CCU. If he is going to lose that way I would rather him schedule all Power 5 schools for his OOC schedules.
Have wondered why he doesn't wear a wig and makeup. It sure would help. He just doesn't look healthy. It's a shame because before he got sick he was robust.Maybe 10 years ago. I can’t imagine Frank on TV now looking like he does. Hide the kids!!!
