every one has said that XT was a lock for months until he comes to campus this past weekend and all of a sudden, Carolina is out?

The defense looked like it needed lots of help, but the most import part, the game was empty. 12k? Boom is telling him that there is all that his excitement around this team and the fans are super excited. Then where were they?

I'm not saying Clemson hasn't paid players before, but Clemson is in a position where it doesn't necessarily HAVE to now...

As I’ve stated before, XT was definitely a USC lock while he was in Florence. It was the move to IMG that opened this recruitment up. Those kids down there are playing to make the NFL and they are all business. Word is that Venables and Dabo really worked him when the IMG tour stopped in Clemson. The pitch was simple:


Come to Clemson and play with some of the best players in the country. You’ll get to shine for 3 years and then head off to the NFL OR stay for 4. Get your degree (see, Watson got his in 3 years) and you’ll be set up after your NFL career is over… and here’s a list of folks that are getting paid in the NFL that have come off Venable’s defenses.


Clemson is simply the better destination if you are going to school in South Carolina RIGHT NOW. These things are cyclical and it’s bound to change at some point… But RIGHT NOW, it’s no contest. The recruiting is better, the talent is better, the facilities are MUCH BETTER, strength and conditioning is better, coaching is better, schedule is better, and you have a chance to play for championships. All those things are 2nd best at USC. Even “playing in the SEC” isn’t the draw it was 4 or 5 years ago. Why bother to buy players when you have all the advantages?
