Injuries since switching to Under Armour

A coworker of mine mentioned that he doesn't like Under Armour shoes because they cause lots of injuries. Northwestern switched to Under Armour before the 2012 season and were extremely healthy during the season. We did seem to have a lot of guys out that following spring. In 2013 and 2014, we were beat up the entire season. Notre Dame recently switched to Under Armour and had the same type of injury issues.

I'm really just grasping at straws, but I'm trying to determine if other schools have had the same type of injury issues since switching to Under Armour. Have you noticed an increase or decrease in injuries since the switch?

One of the big knocks on UA in the past has been their shoes, especially basketball shoes. Supposedly three years ago they hired one of Nike's top shoe designer/architects at a size-able salary increase and that has fixed their issues

I have heard second hand from MBB and directly from soccer coaches that shoes have greatly improved and players really like them.

Under Armour has come a long way in basketball and golf. Most of that has to do with making good decisions in sponsoring athletes. They jumped on Jordan Spieth and Steph curry before Nike or anybody could and both had breakout years. I hate Nike. I only wear Under Armour and I hope my gamecocks stay with them for a very long time!

Northwestern doesn't play in the SEC and neither does Clemsux. We haven't had an abnormal amount of injuries any year since UA took over. When you play physical teams every week players are going to get hurt. It would be nice to play the WF, BC in back to back weeks. We play in a real league so that's not possible.

This guy has 1 post. He used it to backdoor knock UA, which hands-down is growing by leaps and bounds.

.UA makes great stuff, period. If there was ANYTHING to his 'supposition' no one would use the equipment.

Nike and Adidas are old-line worldwide suppliers. Russell, Head, Reebok, Puma ... lots of these companies are out there.

I know for a FACT the first thing investigated (well before the sponsor's ability to pay the agreed-to royalties is satisfied) is the QUALITY of the merchandise.

This entire thread is a red herring.Bet your Spot-Builts and throw in a Rawlings, a Wilson and a McGregor ... spray it with Cramergestic and cap it with a Riddell.

Good call SS1. I think maybe even some mods should investigate this. So much seedy crap goes on the Web it's awful. This is probably some scab hired by Nike or something. It's like me researching the percentage of silicone in some caulk for work, and the freaking ads pop up everywhere for that caulk for months. I'm beginning to hate all of this crap......ha ha....Forgive me and my Ted Kasinsky diatribe. ...ha ha...so true tho.

Yes, I have 1 thread on the South Carolina board. I have 9249 posts on the Northwestern board which is an under armour school and has had a rash of injuries in the past 2 seasons and I'd like to think reasons why.

Here is a thread I started on the northwestern
http://northwestern.forums.rivals.com/threads/could-it-be-the-shoes.6210/

Notice the part where I say I'm going to go around to all the Under Armour schools boards and see if they have experienced the same issues. I'm curious to know what the injury situation has been.

How do you test the quantity of shoes and test that to see what's best for injuries? Do you give shoes to 18 year olds and see who gets hurt? Sounds unethical to me.

So feel free to have the Mods "Investigate" me. I work for a trading company and trade options on Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade. I don't know anyone that works for Nike. Wait... I stood in line for 2 hours to play Michael Jordan 1 on 1 when I was 10 years old. We haven't talked since. Does that count? I lost 3-0 btw

They don't make the pads and protection, do they? Thought it was just shoes, uniforms and such.

Why ANY 'competitive' college football team would sign with Nike amazes me, especially a Pac-12 team. Since the mid-90's Phil Knight has funneled over $300 MILLION into the Oregon athletic department - which is a LARGE reason for their success on the field.

UA's Kevin Plank (a former Maryland football player) likewise has been generous to his Alma Mater - but ALSO very generous to other schools (including USC) that wear his gear. Plank's approach is much more 'businesslike'.

FWIW - Plank's an old friend of Todd Ellis. When he was still selling out of the trunk of his car Plank asked for Todd's help in our area to get people to just TRY Under Armour stuff.

The rest, as they say ... was "click--clack".

When the HBC got on board it REALLY got the attention of other coaches and AD's 'cause they KNOW how competitive Spurrier is; it's one reason (but not the only reason) our Agreement is so generous. 'Carolina helped UA, too.

We have a great deal and UA's equipment IS 'this generations' Nike. BTW - 'shoes' is the fastest growing segment of UA's entire product line. That ain't 'cause they're crappy shoes.

They sell helmets, shoulder pads and leg pads... With the under armour logo. Do they buy them and put a logo on it? I don't know but the schools are wearing pads they got from under armour

For the love of God, can someone just answer the question: Have there been in a noticeable increase or decrease in injuries since switching to under armour?

Dan Akroyd? Is that you? Louis? Just a guess but had you taken Jamie Lee with you to that one-on-one MJ would have forgotten all about you, she was still pretty hot back then.

I suppose it was fate having attended a school christened Kellogg you'd end up doing something with corn.

Good luck to the guys in purple! Sorry, no train wrecks here, move along. FWIW I'd be taking a closer look at my trainer's taping techniques 'stead of trying to pin injuries on the treads. And this probably sounds like blasphemy to a Northwestern man ... but maybe you 'ought inquire with the University of Chicago School of Medicine's Orthopedic Group ... it's top-rate.

Nope. Our player's shoes fit their feet like a hand-made Nokona H-web fits an infielder's hand. We're good.

It's only anecdotal, but I can't see that we have had any rash of injuries out of the ordinary. It seems our problems have been shoulders, back, hammies, and the like. I can't pin anything related to the shoes myself. Sorry for the rant. I'm having a bad week with a software conversion. .ha...hence the late night drinking. ....ha ha.

I'm absolutely certain that a great USC quarterback once tweeted about his lack of confidence in the UA shoes. Of course, that tweet didn't stay up very long, lol! That was 3 or 4 years ago, so I'm sure the product quality is much better now.

Thanks. BTW, I hate fat brad too. He's a jerk.
