Atlanta (Ga.) Hapeville Charter four-star WR Rico Powers went public with his commitment to South Carolina on Tuesday morning, giving the Gamecocks their third wide receiver commit in the 2020 class.

Powers actually committed to the Gamecocks over the weekend and was in town to take in the Alabama game, a trip that sort of solidified South Carolina, a program he's admired for some time, as the choice for him. We got word of that on Sunday, which is when we posted what we did on The Insiders Forum and put in Futurecasts for the Gamecocks.

As a player, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has a tremendous upside. He's long, athletic and has a natural knack for going and getting the 50/50 ball. As we've mentioned previously, Powers played in a triple option offense last season where he was used more as a slot running back. He showed off his ability to make things happen in open space there, but is still raw as a route runner and from the standpoint of the intricacies of playing wide receiver. If you watch his junior film you can see the ability in space and he does split out from time to time at receiver.

Powers is playing his senior season as Hapeville Charter where he's playing a true wide receiver spot for Coach Winston Gordon, who has put out countless Power 5 prospects (J.J. Enagbare and Arden Key are two you'll definitely know) and believes Powers can be right up there with any of the prospects he's put out there.

Since getting to Hapeville in the summer, Powers has worked hard to develop his wide receiver skillset and has worked with a private receivers coach. South Carolina has stayed on Powers for months, but was honest about wanting to see him in camp. Bryan McClendon shares a great relationship with the staff there, going all the way back to McClendon's days as a player at Georgia.

Powers camped in Columbia, the staff really liked what they saw, and began the final push to land him, with South Carolina being one of the places I believe Powers really always wanted to end up.

It culminated with Powers visiting this weekend, where he hung out with 13 or 14 other Carolina commits, including QB Luke Doty, and making his pledge to the Gamecocks.
