Cedar Hill (Texas) Trinity Christian class of 2019 three-star cornerback Shilo Sanders announced his commitment to South Carolina on Twitter moments ago as the Gamecocks took another step towards filling their primary need for the rest of the 2019 class.

Sanders, the son of Deion Sanders, took an official visit to South Carolina in October and quickly named Carolina his leader following that trip. He never really seemed to waver on that, but the Gamecocks were able to lock up his commitment when he pledged to the staff on an additional unofficial visit over the weekend.

The 6-foot-1, 184-pounder was a bit of a late bloomer but did a little bit of everything playing cornerback, some receiver, kickoff returner, and even punting, helping Trinity Christian to a 14-0 finish and state championship as a senior. About midway through his senior season, Sanders' recruitment really began to pick up with South Carolina, Florida State, Colorado State, Nebraska, Michigan State and Rutgers getting involved.

Watching him on film (I haven't seen him in a camp setting), Sanders brings length, athleticism and ball skills (not to mention bloodlines) to the cornerback position and also brings physicality on the perimeter, something I believe South Carolina needs to continue to add to its secondary. He doesn't have the speed of Primetime - who really does? - but he is fast enough and if you watch his film below his running style actually will completely remind you of Primetime.

With the commitment of Sanders, the Gamecocks now have three cornerbacks committed and would like to add at least one out of Jammie Robinson and Dequanteous Watts to finish out the secondary class. In an ideal world, they'd add one of those guys, four-star defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells and an additional offensive lineman.

Another interesting note here is that Sanders has a little brother - Shedeur Sanders - who is one of the top 2021 athletes/quarterbacks in the country as well and already holds reported offers from Arizona State, Florida, Florida State, Houston, LSU, Louisville, Oregon, Penn State, Syracuse and Baylor.
