--Shane Roberts will redshirt his first season at South Carolina. He's dealing with a back injury and will not pitch this year. He hasn't pitched at all since the semester started and has been wearing a brace on his back. Roberts was a pretty high prospect coming out of high school and could have seen innings this year.

--Wilson Beattie will also redshirt this season with a shoulder injury. He hurt it in Saturday's scrimmage, leaving early and not returning. Beattie did not pitch last year either after not making the 35-man roster. Beattie showed signs of improvement and could have helped the team after a pretty solid fall and spring.

--Ian Jenkins, who had Tommy John surgery in the fall, is still a ways away from being completely healthy. The way Kingston described it in the fall is he could potentially be ready to go by mid-March but that's still a long time out.

As for numbers, if my math is correct, the team needs to get down to 34 players by Opening Day. That decision will be made early in the week, Kingston told reporters Friday. With Beattie and Roberts redshirting that makes the decisions a little bit easier, but things still have to get whittled down.
