With a noon kickoff on Saturday and a huge game looming in week 2, expect the visitor list for the Gamecocks to be fairly lean for the season opener against Coastal Carolina. We will bring any confirmed names on that front prior to kickoff.
For now, there are some other prospects we have confirmed for attendance for the Gamecocks’ SEC clash with Georgia next weekend.
We’ve already brought a few high-profile names to light in terms of UGA game visitors; for instance five-star DB Fred Davis out of Florida, Rivals100 DL Zykeivous Walker, and 2019 OL Darius Washington (official visit).
One local product planning on being in attendance for the Georgia game is Hammond defensive tackle Alex Huntley, the 2020 defensive tackle that’s been a fixture on the Gamecocks’ campus. No word yet on whether or not he’ll be joined by high-profile teammate Jordan Burch.
South Carolina should be considered to have a firm edge for Huntley, and the Gamecocks are doing quite well with Burch too from what I hear.
Buford (Georgia) defensive back Jalen Huff out of the 2020 class has been to South Carolina’s campus numerous times and will get another look next Saturday. The 6-foot-1 three-star also carries early offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and others.
Another Peach State underclassman expected to watch USC take on the Dawgs is 2021 OL Weston Franklin.
We have primarily been tracking Virginia OL Jakai Moore as well as the aforementioned Washington for the Gamecocks’ final two offensive line spots, but we are also keeping an eye on a junior college product that the USC staff has been in communication with on a consistent basis.
Memphis commitment Brian Thomas is a Baton Rouge, Louisiana product whose recruitment was stalled out of high school because of academic issues. He’s at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas now and despite his commitment to the Tigers, is still hearing from others. Mississippi State is the program to show the most interest to date. South Carolina has not offered, but Thomas and Eric Wolford talk often and the Gamecocks appear to be keeping him warm.
Finally, there has been a lot of conversation and questions recently on The Insiders Forum surrounding five-star Charlotte product Quavaris Crouch. One stance that we’ve consistently taken is that Crouch’s recruitment has really yet to take its final shape, not until he at least schedules his official visits.
A story from CarolinaBlitz published quotes from Crouch in which he stated he had five official visits lined up, and Tennessee and South Carolina still a possibility to land one. I’ll go back to the original point: Crouch’s recruitment won’t really take shape until he sets foot on each campus for an official visit, whichever programs may ultimately land one. And even with public comments outlining possible trips, even those potential destinations can be tough to pin down at this point.
Why has this one been so complicated, you may ask? I’ll return to an answer I gave on The Insiders Forum recently:
“Crouch has many different parties involved in his recruitment, and that's made it difficult to sort out for media, college coaches, those close to Crouch, and Crouch himself."
