There are so many angles to the story and for football lovers, its easy to be defensive about the threat head injuries poses to football.
I don't have a definitive answer to the increasing evidence that playing football causes serious, serious brain injury in some players. I don't think we should ignore the issue. I don't believe saying "football players understand the risk" is sufficient to dismiss the issue. (we as a society don't let people take dangerous drugs just because they know the risks) I'm left with supporting more research, improving equipment, and supporting rules concerning targeting and concussion protocols. And I still feel a little guilty, because the more evidence we get, the more it looks like football is damaging to the human brain.
