It would be insane not to go after Golson. Have you looked at our schedule?

Especially the road games - at UGA, Missouri, Tenn., A&M. Not to mention LSU, Clemron at home, and others. We shouldn`t take any game for granted at this time. Remember, we had McEvoy and Nosovitch that didn`t pan out here, now we have Zero proven QB`s. Not a recipe for success. He would be a perfect fit, can have unproven QB`s learn under him for a year. Nobody dreamed Russell Wilson would be as successful as he became - not saying he will be another Wilson, but who knows. i really think if we had gotten Wilson(we didn`t try) we would have won the SEC that year. Doubt if that would happen, but you never know. If we don`t, he will likely end up on a team that will play us. If he chooses another team, so be it. We didn`t go after Muschamp, we didn`t go after Chavis. Can we please try to go after a seasoned veteran QB? He is a smart guy and I`m sure could learn the system quickly under SOS and GA.

EG would be a dramatic upgrade over any QB currently on campus. His family says he wants to go to FSU, FWIW.

IMO, he would do himself a big favor picking USC. FSU ALWAYS has 2-3 talented players available at every position. He'd end up as an after thought on the 'Noles 2015 season. At Carolina, he would, at the least, have an opportunity to do something 'Wilsonesque'.

you guys are making too much sense....i, too, think we should go after him hard. he would be a definite upgrade.

There is nothing daunting about this schedule. Vandy and Citadel are horrid. UNC, UK, and UF are not good. LSU, A&M, UT, UCF, and Clem all have major limitations.

I don't see a Top 10 team on our schedule.

Jack Twist is one of the gay cowboys from Brokeback Mountain. Cock Hudson has really been busy on here since the debut of the new look.

.... Nobody dreamed Russell Wilson would be as successful as he became ...

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but if you can find my old posts (all of them seem to have disappeared), I was the lone wolf who argued against everyone on this board for USC to get Wilson. It was apparent to me that he had the goods. As for Golson, it's an issue of experience vs inexperience. He could help out this team a lot.

You may have felt like a lone wolf because the Garcia cultists were so fanatical in wanting no competition for their beloved savior, but you were hardly alone. Other voices who wanted RW were simply drowned out.

Golson is a different story all together. There's no current quarterback on the current roster with a fanatical following like Garica's, and I don't think anyone would argue that Golson is as good as RW.

I tend to agree with your overall sentiment: what could it hurt to have an experienced quarterback on the roster?

You don't get it, it's not going to come here just to "Be on the roster" It's his last year eligibility. He wants the keys to the car and we can't guarantee him that because he hasn't earned it.

Says someone who is not Steve Spurrier. If Spurrier doesn't want him or go after or think he is an upgrade. Does that mean Spurrier is "insane?" How can you say it is definitely an upgrade over Mitch if Mitch hasn't even gotten his chance. That is jumping to conclusions.

I hate to say it. But in my opinion, the best fit for Golson is Florida or Florida State.

I would rather go with Mitch. We weren't good enough for EG to begin with, now, he is looking for any port in a storm. No thank you. Mitch has been here, he is a Gamecock and earned it.

Did you see the guy backing up Wiston last year. He's awful. We have better QBs than FSU I'd have to believe.

Truthfully, I'm leaning to Mitch even if Golson came. I think Golson turns the ball over way too much. You can't do that in this league. I think Mitch looked pretty good in the Spring and will get better with experience.

That is the problem. Golson may be better, but he is not CLEARLY better than Mitch like some are trying to say. There will have to be a QB battle in the summer while Golson tries to learn the offense. I don't think Golson is going to have beat out a guy that is hungry for his chance, that knows the offense, and that Spurrier is high on.

And NEXT year is going to be looked at as a bigger year than this year so he is going to want to give Mitch the experience now.

How don't I get it? I'm just saying if he wants to come here and compete, I don't see the problem. If he wants "the keys to the car," then he won't come here.

FWIW, a guy on our home board says he talked to Golson's HS coach and per him Golson to USC is pretty much a done deal.

He won't be guaranteed anything. Spurrier wouldn't do that. If he can help us then it's a good thing. I am sure Golson feels it may be a good opportunity here but would think he knows he has to earn it no matter where he goes

a given,,,,

but do you and capt. jim think he will get the start? IF he comes to Columbia that is...

No he does want to compete the job. It's his last year. He could have stayed at ND and done that.

I would like Golson to come just to have the others (mainly Nunez) watch and learn. To me Nunez is the future of this program. Not likely that Spurrier "gives the keys" to a redshirt freshman in '16, but who knows? If EG gets the cocks another win or two (which I think is possible) then it's a bonus.

I think McIlwain will play early more so than Nunez but we will, see. He still has another year of HS
