What's the deal here? I see he's committed to UT but he doesn't have an offer from USC or Clemson. Does he just not want to play in-state?

This is talked about quite often but nobody seems to know why the in state schools passed on him. Someone said on the radio recently there was concern about him not being able to add enough weight/muscle to perform in the SEC/ major CFB level. Does not seem to be any rumblings about off field or glaring red flags on him... It is puzzling. Everyone says he is an amazing player...

Slowest time at the opening was a slow ass 4.28.... crazy aint it. I know we need speed but I have to trust in what the coaches know, especially on the recruiting side of it.Was also said he had hands of stone but keep him on the jugs machine.

JFTR, I personally believe he is the exact kind of talent we need on offense. He runs a 4.31 forty! We do not have explosive speed on offense and the incoming WRs we have are more large bodied possession types, which is basically what we have already. Shi is the only guy on offense with anything like elite speed! We need some game breakers to push the safeties back a d make other teams respect the deep ball. Once they realized we did not have much of a deep threat this year, they started stacking the box and crushing our run game... We had no counter! To be explosive an offense needs multiple guys on the outside who can take it deep a d we basically have none and do not appear interest in adding any if we let this kid skate to our division rival from right under our nose without so much as offering him! Perplexing...

That was often mentioned. He didn't perform particularly well at camps and struggled at times to get separation against quality CBs; he did seem better at that in games this year (I'm a DF parent and was at most of the home games). There were also questions about work ethic, taking plays off, etc. No one questions his speed, and I've seen him make some amazing catches (but also drop some balls, too). Unlike Thompson, there were no red flags about off the field issues. I think he'll be a good college receiver but will be interested to see how he fills out and whether he has injury issues playing an SEC schedule.

Think they like Caldwell better. After watching film of him from the Shrine Bowl, I'd agree. He is smooth....running and catching the ball.

Just looked at Caldwell's film and he does look impressive. Looks fast and he's really tall. I guess the ratings guys dropped the ball on him. Can't believe Rivals has him at 2 stars. He's got a decent list of offers.

Seems all the ratings services missed on him thus far.....don't think he did the combine circuit at all. Though I'd expect a huge bump after the Shrine Bowl.

Pruitt believes in him. He was acting like he owned Williams Brice during the State Championship game. Taking pictures with fans.

How does he compare to, say, Damiere Byrd? And how much real value did we ever derive from Byrd?
I never thought we utilized Byrd enough. I honestly think he was a 15 TD guy if we would've called the deep ball more. Of course I also think we didn't utilize Saunders and Cook nearly enough either. I watched what Tulsa did with Garrett Mills and often wondered how many records Cook would've broke with that kind of system.

Several inches taller, about the same weight, comparable speed. For what it's worth, here's his recruiting profile from TBS:

"Thin, lean frame with little weight or significant mass at this stage. Should add some mass once he gets in a strength program, but is unlikely to ever be a very big player. Is among the very fastest players in the 2020 cycle with one of the faster verified 40 times nationally along with stellar times in the 100 and 200 meters. Plays for one of the top high school programs in South Carolina and has had a very productive high school career to date with a high touchdown rate. Can take the top off the defense as a deep threat and shows the ability to make some high level catches. Will have to gain some strength at the next level to aid in his ability to run through tackles after the catch. Can also stand to polish up his routes and continue improving consistency with his hands. Projects as an outside Z wide receiver who demands attention from safeties given his deep threat ability. Projects as a Power 5 starter who could blossom into a NFL Draft pick with furthered development."

Based on your post and the one just below it, does he rate an offer?

Meh, who knows? I'm not going to second guess guys who do this for a living and spend hours evaluating these kids. Jalin committed to VT early when he was a mid 3* and increased his value as the year went on. With guys like him, a lot will come down to how they adapt to coaching and the college game, which is hard to predict. I like our guys but wish him the best, except when we play them.

I hope so! We need some elite speed. The 40 times I have seen posted on other sites were around 4.6-4.7 for all the receivers I have seen committed to us. That is probably unreliable data when we are talking HS kids and I like Powers on tape, he is clearly faster than his competition... I think this Hyatt kid is a burner though! You can add muscle and teach a guy how to run routes and catch better (in theory, I am not sure Bmac can do that for kids but..). You can’t coach 4.3 speed. If he is legit that fast, unless he is a head case or something, seems we coulda given him more of a look..? I an sure we had reasons...

I'm pretty sure Powers tore his ACL. When do they think he'll be back to 100%?

Isn't the deal with Hyatt the fact he is from Dutch Fork and our stubborn coach and their coach had a fall out over Bryce Thompson recruitment.

The Dutch Fork coach always said he would qualify.

Muschamp backed off for that and off field issues.

Thompson had his issue this summer, and missed a few games, but really he is one of Tenn best players and helping them to a bowl.

I think Hyatt is very good, and will helpTenn rise back some which hurts us.

Dutch Fork is a great program, to me there is some kind of beef there

Hyatt is one of the top WR in the Carolinas, it cant be talent concerns on why we passed, in year we took several wrs

This year? I wasn't able to follow him that closely since he left Benedictine and went to Atlanta this year....so I'm not sure and didn't know he got hurt.
Its him or Bell. Somebody was talking about it on Twitter. It's who ever Auburn made a late push for.

I certainly, do not know if there is more to the story, in fact, I don't know if there ever was a story to begin with but, I sure will agree that Hyatt has an odd/strange offer profile.

He has offers from Big Name schools from all over the country (Oregon, Michigan, Miami, Penn St, Nebraska, Arkansas) and yet, the home state schools haven't even offered. A 4 Star rated WR and only 4 SEC schools offered? The closest school to home, to offer was Va Tech meaning, no Power 5 school in Ga, SC or NC school offered?

Probably, no story at all but, it is a bit odd without one.

I thought the same thing.

When you offer a player get a commitment then dont honor it and the HS coach has to address the media and assure them the player will qualify there is no big issue

It cant sit well with coach and your recruiting future at that school

The coach will probably be grateful to the school that steps up and steer his next best players there

I dont think it's a coincidence Tenn got Hyatt after taking Thompson after we dropped

You've got to remember that Connor Shaw was our QB and as great as he was for us, he didn't throw a lot of long balls. That wasn't one of his best attributes.

Dutch Fork hasn’t produced a prospect that’s matched their ranking yet, as far as P5. I believe their “system “ for one reason or another doesn’t prepare the kids moving forward.
When Knotts was at Independence in Charlotte, I know he had Chris Leake, but don’t recall many ,if any, other ballers.
I looked and Hakeem Nicks is the only other big timer, but not sure if Knotts coached him....also DJ Smith(?)

This seems like the most logical reason.. I would bet this is the reason.

Another way to look at it is that Knotts is adept at winning multiple state championships in two different states with players who don't necessarily project as Power-Five prospects. If I'm signing his paycheck, that's the way I'm looking at it.

Matt Colburn definitely did. At Wake Forest, he finished 6th in school history with 2,528 rushing yards, 8th in school history with 542 career carries, and 5th most yards in a game (243 yards vs. Louisville). Overall, he had 15 career rushing touchdowns and 8 100 yard games. He was on the Rams roster this year; not sure if he's still active or on the practice squad right now. Not bad for a mid 3*.

Good player no doubt! I’m sure there will be another at some point, but the success of the program isn’t translating at the clip it should be.
My descendants founded the area now known as Dutch Fork/Irmo... I attended Irmo...so I pull for those teams. I hope you realize there’s no animosity intended.

Nope, no animosity at all. I'm always interested in hearing about people with ties to the area. My kid is in the STEM magnet program at DFHS, and we're pretty active in lots of things at the school, including sports booster activities.

BTW - the other guy who should have done better was Stephen Davis, Jr. I can't really blame Knotts for him being a head case, though; after signing at Auburn, SD had the potential to be a solid P5 (and maybe NFL) player. Of course the best player in the current 4-peat run won't even play college football.

People are right, though, that we're a system school, and Knotts does not do a great job promoting his kids for colleges. It was interesting when we played Mallard Creek (with multiple P5 prospects) to a draw this year. As for Thompson, I've said it before and I'll say it again - there aren't many Gamecock fans at DFHS who regretted USC taking a pass on him.

Do any of you know what it is like to run with and without pads? What good is a 4.28 if you are too scrawny to duplicate it with pads on? And he needs work with his hands. Negative ghost rider. You either have hands or you don't at this stage.
