Kylic Horton commits

That’s original. How long did it take you to come up with that? But to address your implication, my statement had absolutely nothing to do with USC or even this particular recruit. It was simply stating the obvious that you don’t want to sign player just to keep someone else from getting them. But go ahead and write your reply down somewhere so that you don’t forget it. That’s a dandy that I’m sure can be used again some time.
You are a tater, you demean our program in a polite way but demean it nonetheless. Thats the answer to my question. Go place nice on taternet

Can someone explain why a WR in 8 man football won’t translate to college?
I don’t think that is really the case, but probably the biggest difference is the complexity of the plays and schemes in college would likely be much greater in college than what someone would be accustomed to playing 8 man in HS. At WR that would be less important than say QB or even most defensive positions I would imagine..

That’s what I’m thinking you lose one DB but also one WR. Field is smaller and seems to emphasize better route running and speed than 11 man honestly.

there seems to be no reason it shouldn’t translate

Level of competition won't necessarily mean he won't translate in college.

If it was up to me and I'm sure USC coaches, he would take a step up in completion. How can he truly get better/test himself against the worst of the worst football playing short/slow white kids? His team also had a losing record in this league.

How many private school 8 man football team players have came to USC and have been remotely successful?

How many have come to usc? How many players have come from Deleware to usc and been successful?

The real irony being these are the same arguments people were making about Darius Rush.

There is a chance that Horton turns out to be a unicorn, but more likely than not there was a reason he wasn’t on the radar.

I don’t know it just seems like an arbitrary point - how many were 6’3 and ran a 4.4?

I think the kid looks smooth and has a chance at being a productive D1 player, but if you watch the film and think this kid runs a legit 4.4...lol

You think they are lying about his 40 time?
Lol yes. Who is "they"? (Maybe this is news to you?) hs/college tends to fudge the numbers on height/weight/40- times.

It's ok, kid has a chance to be a productive player here, I'm not knocking him. I'm also not going to overlook the obvious and sunshine pump to make myself and others on the board feel better.

Villagers can’t comprehend irony.

The greatest recruiter in the history of UofSC on the the “Get You Fired” pathway.

Personal evals. Trust the coaches. Rankings don’t matter (unless it’s high) Ratings don’t matter (unless it’s high). Watch the tape. The exceptions that prove the rule. Bleat, bleat, bleat.

It all seems so familiar.

But, hey, maybe this time things will be different. It is the blissful season after all.

And wasn't Gaines Adams recognized as one of the top recruits in the country, and everybody wanted him?
No, he wasn’t.

Tanneyhill begged Lou to give him an honest look, he refused, because he played 8 man ball. He talked to the Clemson staff, they signed him.

High risk, high reward. Level of competition is much lower, but an athlete is an athlete. Only time will tell if he can translate that ability to the SEC level.

Public schools in his part of the state aren’t particularly good. He very well might be attending that school for better academics.

If his measurables are correct, he may be a legit steal.

I hope the kid is good, and he might be, but I'm very skeptical of 40 times at small-time camps. It's not lying per se, but it's hard to get an accurate 40 time in high school without good equipment, and high schools do fudge their numbers.
“Small time camps”?

He just camped with us, I think the staff would’ve timed his 40.

I believe you’re a Clemson fan based on the tone of your posts, but just because Clemson didn’t offer him doesn’t mean he’s not a good player.

Kid, I've been here for a very long time. The 4.4 time I've heard about was at a small "elite" camp. I haven't heard anything about a 40 at USC. That's not typical during these camps.

“Horton is quite the rags to riches football recruiting story. He has only played eight-man football for Clarendon Hall, and prior to a camp session at USC, his only offers were from Gardner-Webb and Benedict. But he impressed Beamer and receivers coach Justin Stepp in a camp June 3rd with a 4.4 forty and a 39-inch vertical. He returned the next day and was impressive again, and the Gamecocks offered. Soon after, he landed offers from Virginia Tech and Coastal Carolina.”

Well, you would be correct, I am a tater and proud of it. However, I’m a graduate of both schools, so my opinion is just as valid as yours, maybe even more so. Name calling is so juvenile. When I couldn’t stand Muschamp and let my feeling be known, I was called tater quite often. Since his departure, my comments have only attempted to keep things in context. If you believe calling me a tater hurts my feelings, you are vastly mistaken.

Recently saw a kid being talked about on on a HS sports group I'm in on Facebook. Is this the same kid that was considered the fastest WR at Beamer's camp recently? If so, I think we've got a diamond in the rough; and look forward to seeing dude shine.

Would you have felt better if he came from Scott's Branch? The key is he was offered after the coaches saw him in person against other prospects.I have to trust the coaches here. It's a gamble but every player is a gamble.

We are kings of the "Diamonds in the Rough", tough way to have to recruit.

I think people would feel better if he was the DeAngelo Smith and we had an Alston Jeffrey committed.

I dont care about your feelings.

Why does every thread have to turn into bickering between 2 or 3 posters who take over the entire thread. Frankly, I read through these posts hoping to find some news or interesting information and try to skip over the snarky comments, but dang ... sometimes they just go on and on and on ...

We also have quite a few heavily recruited players as well. Being able to identify talent before other teams do is a valuable skill for a head coach, I'd say. Dude is tall with speed. I think we picked up a beast that could create some match-up problems off intangibles alone. Put someone like that with a WR coach like Justin Stepp and he's in position to do nothing BUT succeed. Good to see South Carolina kids showing out in camps, and good to see this staff making a point with their relationships in-state to keep top talent in-state. Looking forward to seeing the many future touchdowns he'll score in garnet and black!

A “not rated” player from an 8 man program? Ok
He’s now rated a 3*, with the possibility of more jumps.

He was a virtual unknown who blew up at camp. With his measurables and a basketball background, it’ll be interesting watching his progression.
