Last night ,on Sportstalk , Kornblute had an extensive interview with Jack Leggett . During the interview,
Leggett said he had heard from over 500 people in the last few days. Kornblute said he assumed some
of those 500 were from U.S.C. After an awkward silence, Leggett said that he had NOT heard from any
of the U.S.C. people.
There is a legitimate reason for this. Jack Leggett accused Ray Tanner, Jackie Bradley and the University
of South Carolina of outright cheating. A claim he was unable to prove. Yes, I know that he later offered
an apology, but this was too little and too late. I know one thing, I would have loved to be privy to the first
private conversation between Tanner and Laggett after the " Hot Bat " incident.
One other thing , I have followed Carolina since I was 10 years old. At 72, that means I have seen a lot of
good and a lot of bad. One of the best things I got to enjoy was the baseball teams of Ray Tanner. I was
fortunate to be in Omaha when he led us to the national championship.
He has been a " Class Act " both on and off the field. In victory and in defeat, he always paid the opposing
teams compliments.
The following is for Gamecock AND tiger fans. How many times have you ever heard Leggett say anything
good about a team he either beat or lost to ? I watched Clemson baseball a lot, always read any write-up
on them and I can not recall one single time that Leggett was complimentary. So, I understand the lack of
concern for Leggett by the folks at U.S.C.

Jack was a good coach. His record speaks for itself, As Carolina fans we can thank him for leaving us a memory of the "bat warmer". It now has a place in our baseball lore.

He has an exceptional resume as far as coaching ability. I was refering to the comment about " no one from
USC had contacted him and the possible reasons why.

Class A jackass, without a doubt.

But if you know many NCAA coaches or pay attention to them it's fairly easy to see that Tanner is the exception, not the norm. But I bet that was a funny moment when Kornblut asked him if he had heard from any USC fans (which I'm sure he has...good or bad...but didn't want to elaborate) because I would bet money most USC fans feel the same way I do, and hate to see Jackleg go!

I talked to the aunt of one of CU's starters the last time they made Omaha. She said her nephew couldn't stand Leggett. I think that's the universal opinion.

Leggett always struck me as a hard ass. Now, that's okay (to a degree) if you are very successful, i.e. you have several CWS championships in your trophy case; otherwise, you're just a Jack Ass. JMO.

I wish him well on his next journey.

Leggett never treated USC or Tanner with any respect.
When Tanner first arrived Leggett treated us as unworthy: Remember our 38-10 Wed. victory? Afterwards Leggett said why would he waste any pitcher on a game that meant nothing when he had a weekend ACC series coming up. He tried to turn the series into a joke.

When Ray wanted the series to be a statewide showcase with neutral site games, Leggett tried to block it.

His bush league gamesmanship was always in play from the bat warmer incident to deliberately arriving late for a game in Columbia and blaming it on Tanner.

Omaha 2002 and especially 2010 will be what he is remembered for, being on the cusp of a national championship and having your hated rival send you home beaten and humiliated!

Hate to break the news, but Jack has 3 coaches out of the 8 in the CWS that either were assistants or worked along side of him. He is an was a good coach. He fell short of CWS Championships, but he turned out a ton of good players and coaches. He was an a - hole, but to be frank, so was Tanner till Chad got there. And we see where that got us this year. I personally give the man his due. We had some really great games against a really good coach that gave us some really great memories. Just remember, he had the chance to sink our ship on several occasion, just couldn't out coach Tanner. That's the way I prefer to remember him. I think he coaches again.

Leggett was a very good coach and a worthy opponent. Let's just give the 'bat-warming' accusation a rest,O.K.? Matter of fact, the way JBjr is hitting (not) after 4 years in pro ball makes me kinda wonder myself, lol!

Are you implying that maybe Tanner and Bradley WERE using an illegal bat ? If so, have the balls to say
so up front. Bush league is bush league, and I must remind you that Leggett went on record right after
the " bat warming accusation" and profusely apologized to Bradley and Tanner.
Was your nose so far up Jack leg's anus that you missed this. Now I'll say, LOL.

Well we weren't warming bats...Jackleg's pitcher was stinking it up and we made him pay. That's what good ball players do. And as I said earlier that's why he stopped play, to try to slow our mojo because he knew his boys were getting their brains beat out early in the game. As much as he liked to downplay the series in the media he truly wanted to win it, but couldn't most years.
Must really suck to have to live with that, plus trying to keep up that ginormous ego he has. What a punk!

You should probably post less. Thanks.

+1. Jack was a giant ass clown and he got what he deserved. Was he a good coach? Yes, but he always seemed to treat Tanner and USC like they were beneath him. He basically took over a great program from a legend and had some success early on. All he really did after 2002 was the 2006 and 2010 seasons. At a place like Clemson making the regionals every year and the Supers every few years are expected.

I always just thought he was an arrogant ass and really had no reason to be. He never won a national title, went home early in Omaha every year but 2 (and lost to USC both times), and only won 1 ACC title with his "own program" when he wasn't using Wilhelm's players.

What was the kids name? His players this year sure did like him and his ex-players have came out and said he was done wrong. So this kid you're talking about must be butt hurt about something

And you should probably think more before you post.

So the FACT that JBJ is hitting .333 in AAA means that he must have been warming his bats in college? Do you know how many guys hit .400 in college and never get past single A ball?

Let's start over, OK? The first post was a joke about JBjr and his obvious hitting struggles in the bigs (see lol!). I certainly don't know or care if we used bat warmers, which were legal, right? Not a tigger fan, but I have to admit that JL was a very good coach. I didn't like the "shenanigans" he pulled in 2011, but I've also been embarassed by SOS more than one occasion during his graceless moments in public (the Ron rant, the Dabo reference after Lattimore's injury, and the postgame show @UCF), so that's why I suggested we drop the bat-warming deal. Hope this helps!

Lol. Idiots will be idiots. Hall of Fame coach. The AD screwed him over. Pathetic by the AD. Jack should have been able to leave on his own next year if that was the situation. Let him leave in style. He gave many many great years to that program. What would Gamecock fans think if we did that to Tanner? Don't bother answering! By the way, what was Jack's record vs Carolina?

bdblack wants us to drop the bat-warming deal. If that doesn't scream tater, I don't know what does.

Screw Leggett, he's an ass.

He always seemed kinda dry to me. I heard him say many times that the opponent had a good ball club but don't really remember him gushing over anything. Wish him well.

That 2002 series, when we embarrased them nationally in Omaha--some of my favorite baseball memories! It was pretty fun the next time too-2010

It was 38-16. April 23, 1997. :)

You called South Carolina shamecocks . You are not a gamecock fan . What was Jack record against us in Omaha ? Let him leave in style . How so ? clemmy fired him . End of story

Thanks for the numerical correction, but I noticed you did not argue with the editorial commentary
I do not like JackLegg. At all. Not just because he coached at Clemsux. I do not like him as a person. Heck, I used to give the Old Goat all kinds of grief, but overall, he was always nice to me whenever I had interactions with him. I can't say the same for JackLegg.

And that's all I care to say about it.
