I have not stepped foot on the campus in 20+ years but I was there from 1989-1994. That last year, I was just living in Lynchburg but I knew a ton of LU students. I was asked not to come back halfway through that fall semester of 1993. I knew a lot of black students there and never heard anyone say they felt they had been discriminated against. Ever. Interracial dating was very, very common and no one cared. At the time, I felt that was probably due to so many international students and students from all over the country that attended. And I have to spell this out for you but obviously, there would have been some full blown racists there. I just didnt know any. They would not have wanted to hang out with the folks I did, since I dated an indian girl there, as well as a few black chicks.
I realize much may have changed since then, and I have never been a fan of Falwell Jr. I think he is a complete hypocrite and his father must be turning over in his grave with some of the stuff he has pulled. However, I have to feel that much of this is due to the current political and racial climate we are living in, not to mention a hackjob done by the reporter. These kids today want every one to bow down to their every wim and fancy and they have bought this idea pushed by the media hook, line and sinker that every one is racist and out to get them. They are a bunch of little whiny babies and you couldnt pay me enough money to be involved and working with kids these days.

Just so I Understand your post.

1) Fallwell Jr is a complete hypocrite.

2) The black athletes that feel the way they do at Liberty is partly because a reporter wrote a story about them leaving (reality- the reporter wrote the story because they were leaving). They clearly can’t think for themselves or have their own beliefs.

3) the black athletes there are a “bunch of whiny babies”

Liberty University is one of the largest recipients in the nation of government funded need-based financal aid dollars (or what some of you like to refer to as socialism). Wonder how much of that is spent on athletic facilities or their Presidents' alcohol fueled Florida vacations?

Well, the word hypocrisy comes to mind.

Liberty spends a LOT of money for sure.

Dude you dont even try to have an intelligent discussion with me so I am not even going to bother to respond to you anymore.....

Ok, so how many players left the school ? And why does anybody care? Just because maybe there is some Trump supporters who work there ?

I think you should actually read the article before asking off the wall questions

I have no time for partisan Witch Hunt websites. So since you brought it up give us the cliff notes.

I’m not sure what trump has to do with the players leaving but Again, I think you should read the article before asking dumb questions

I think you have plenty of time considering your 44,000+ posts on FGF.

1st off its 44,145 posts. Plus only you would care about something going on at Liberty university. But you still haven't given a number of players who left the school. Sorry but Normal people dont read the slate.

Pretty much about 75% of kids 15-25 are whiny little babies and spoiled little brats. They have bought the media lie that everyone is a racist and out to get them and they dont take personal responsibility for anything.

I was there. I spent 4-5 years there. I know what I am talking about, though I do realize some things might have changed somewhat, but they havent changed that much. I dont buy any of this crap because I know the deal. As usual, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Hey asthecockcrows, from the article:
“One Black alumnus from the 1990s told me that back then, “it was way more diverse than it is now. The percentage of Blacks has absolutely plummeted over the last four years since Jerry went all-in on Trump.” (McLaurin, the now former diversity retention officer, previously told Slate that the school’s internal count recorded a drop in the Black residential student population from 10 percent in 2007 to just 4 percent in 2018. “

it sounds like things have changed quite a bit from your time there

So a black athlete is supposd to be ok with a professor for one if his classes making a joke about whipping him.....ala slavery on southern plantations? And when he speaks up and says hey, i dont like this I am leaving he is whiny? Come on.

Contrary to what the left would like to try to convince us of, not all blacks hate Trump. There is a large group of young black men that support Trump and their numbers are growing.

I believe that Slate will put out a fair, unbiased article on anything Republican or conservative when....well, never to be honest. I will have to check with a friend of mine who still lives in Lynchburg and knows the campus well because I dont see any way possible that numbers of black students have dropped that drastically. LU was one of the most diverse student bodies I have ever seen. I will say again though that I dont care for Falwell Jr. at all and do not believe he is helping anything there.

No. If that statement is true, the guy should have been fired immediately. No doubt about it. That doesnt change the fact that a huge number of these kids whine and complain about everything and are a bunch of whiny babies looking for any and every reason to be offended.

Honest question...have you personally ever been the target of a racist slur?

This is not just a Liberty problem. The issues of this year have students and athletes re-assessing their choices when it comes to higher education. Jemele Hill was laughed at when she suggested it was time for high caliber Black athletes to consider HBCU's again. It has not really touched football, yet, but I hear the rumblings with parents. In basketball, you had a 5 star kid recently commit to Howard and several have taken visits in the last 2-3 years. With most high-level basketball players being one-and-done anyway some are thinking why not. As with most movements, they start small and develop over time. Unfortunately, America is slowly re-segregating and I am not sure what we do to turn the tide.

You might want to check that. The quote and article linked below is from June 24, 2020. The % of on-campus African American students dropped from an already low 13% in 2007 to just 5% last year.....even while they are building more athletic programs.

"But Liberty’s reckoning over race comes as its share of on-campus Black students has declined in recent years. Internal documents obtained by AP show Black students made up 13% of Liberty’s resident undergraduates in 2007 and just 5% last year."

Do you not see the irony in you complaining about the students complaining about their own experience.

I don't think the best of the best in football will be going to HBCUs in any large number. Even if they truly want to support their cause, they still have to take care of themselves and their families first. And playing for Bama, OSU, LSO, Clem, and others get you a lot better look from pro scouts than going to a smaller school. Plus, there's no way a small school can match Clemson's pay scale. ;)
