Former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler committed to South Carolina and first-year head coach Shane Beamer Monday night as one of the highest-rated transfer available in the portal. Rattler's long-time quarterback trainer, Mike Giovando, said the familiarity with Beamer certainly played a role in his decision along with the idea of playing within an NFL-geared scheme under Gamecocks offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield.
“The lingo, the plays, the schemes, everything about what Coach Satterfield does is based on the highest level of NFL football,” Giovando said, according to The State in Columbia, South Carolina. “I think Spence thought that was important as well. (He wanted) to get into a scheme and in a system that’s going to help (him) translate to the next level when (he) gets that opportunity.”
Rattler, a former five-star, is the highest-rated quarterback to ever pledge to the Gamecocks, based on his ranking coming out of high school in 2019 as the No. 11 player overall and top pro-style passer, according to the 247Sports Composite.
