Matt Campbell at Toledo

35 years of age. Team just won on the road at Arkansas and beat Iowa State last night. We need a young hungry recruiter. Thanks SOS, but it's time to go.

From 2011-2013, he brought in the number 1 recruiting class in the MAC each of those 3 years. In 2014, he brought in the number 2 recruiting class in the MAC. In 2015, he brought in the number 3 recruiting class in the MAC. Thus far, his recruiting class ranks number 2 . This guy is obviously a recruiting machine. The fact that he has beaten 2 Power 5 conference teams this year indicates that he can coach, too.

If we are ever going to move up in the SEC, we are going to need someone who can recruit. There are just not enough prospects annually in the state to put our recruiting car on "cruise control".

Thanks for the find.

SOS can still do it but he needs to change. He needs to be the CEO and the CEO needs to clean house. He needs to hire an OC and have 1 DC and let them do what they're hired for. Maybe hire one of these young HCs as a coordinator, pay them more than they're making as a HC, and designate them as HC in waiting. SOS can get his hundred wins and we have a viable plan for the future.

He could do it, but he won't. He's not going to fire Junior, period. And he won't give a DC the freedom to hire his own staff...we found that out after last season.

SOS needs to have nothing to do with this program, effective 12/1, unless he makes major changes, which he won't. At this point, he is the soundbyte that won't end.

Matt Campbell is damn impressive, and so is Rod Carey, as well as John Grass from the other Gamecocks. His teams have had over 6000 yards of total O each of the last 2 years. Crazy!

It would be VERY interesting to see what a strong recruiter, who can also "coach", like Campbell and Tom Herman, could do with this football program. I don't think we have ever had such a Head Coach in football.

I'm not sure if this would be a red flag or not but he is from the Tim beckman, fired Illinois coach, coaching tree. I imagine you can find a negative for any potential candidate.
It is fast approaching if not already time to venture down a new path with the future of our football program.

We indeed need someone who can and is interested in recruiting. With that said, when we have had our 5* recruits, it was boys who grew up gamecock fans. That task is going to be a tough task. We cannot offer what Ole Miss offers (small, college town atmosphere), neither can we compete effectively going head to head with UGA. Forget out recruiting TAMU, UF, Bama, LSU, UT, and Auburn (traditions trump us every time). So the people we might day-in, day-out out-recruit would be Vandy, UK, Ark, MSU. That does not make Columbia the best destination. SOS did recruit some early based on his name, but most kids today don't know anything at all about his fun&gun and past success.
USC job is not an easy one.......

A good recruiter can sell any program. For every kid that limes a small town like Oxford or Clemson, there is one that likes being somewhere bigger like Columbia.

What recruiting ties does he have in the southeast?

Wise up people, we are much better off with Spurrier than hiring someone that has never coaches in the southeast and doesn't have ties to hs down here.
