Men’s basketball

All we had to do was finish in the top half of the conference and we go dancing. That's at the most. It almost sounded too easy but noooo... smdh.

Meechie and Cooper were the heart of the team last season. It's a wait-and-see situation in terms of current players who can fill those roles on any regular basis.

The challenge is that January's schedule is brutal. This week, we're playing #5 and #2 in the nation and it doesn't get much easier from here.

The little experiment with Tanner and his worthless hire, it's time to get rid of Paris and let the new AD go find us a coach and not just someone that sees $ signs

Paris recorded our best regular season ever in his 2nd year here.

He took us to the NCAA Tournament in his 2nd year after an 8-year drought.

He's the reigning SEC Basketball Coach of the Year.

He's off to the best start in Gamecock Basketball history.

What more would you ask of him right now? :)

I too agree dont get rid of him NOW... But I will admit, This team (irregardless of schedule) is not NCAA tourney caiber..

Honestly, far too earlier to say how this team finishes out.

We just lost by 3 points to the #2 team country after leading a good part of the game.

Auburn thrashed us in both contests last season so the coaching staff did a great job in adjustments.

Murray-Bowles is an NBA Player.

The key is obviously getting more production from role players and we have many new faces.

We're not getting rid of Paris anytime soon so we might as well settle in for now.

Make that the #1 team in the country, Sometimes in basketball it takes some time for your talent to meld, especially when you have several new faces, our fanbase needs to be a bit more patient, the SEC has 5 teams in the top 8 and 9 in the top 25, we just got beat by 3 top 15 teams, we're going to have some losses. We beat Clemson, not a bad, team they beat Kentucky.

I will agreee on Lets see how this team finishes, it however is no too early to see this team is not good. Again, it is This coach's 2nd year, he did okay last year with basically Martin's players, lets see if he can get HIS players to improve.

This team just took #2 to the wire and also beat our ranked rival.

They can't be too bad when you compare them with what we've had the past few decades. :)

All of the key players who took we to the dance last year were recruited by Paris, not Martin.

Again, I think Paris's current stats speak for themself at this moment in time.

You can't get better when it's sized up with USC Basketball History over the same time frame.

You're moving the goalposts, COD. :)

We had a slew of new players this year.

You use early season non-conference games to experiment and see who is going to be your starting 5 going into the main competition.

Ideally, you still want to come out with a victory as well, but sometimes that doesn't happen.

Again, Paris has the most wins of any basketball coach in USC History.

He just signed a new contract after recording the best regular season in USC History and is also the reigning Coach of The Year.

The idea of trying to pick him apart right now is a little misguided.

He's going to be here for at least another 2-3 years regardless of what happens.

Okay Ward, If i point out recent losses, You said Competition was too good, Early losses Becouse of new players. I will agree lets let the season playout, but even you can NOT say that this team (Right now) is a tournament team..

We've been the NCAA Tournament a total of 5 times since we entered the SEC 34 years ago.

Only one time in that history have we gone in back-to-back years and that was with Fogler approximately 30 years ago.

So the chances that we go in back-to-back years again is rather slim. :)

I do like Paris alot though.

If you listen to his pressers, really knows the game well and what it takes to win.

He also seems to be a very cool guy.

I'm not sure what his NIL budget is, but if we can get him enough money to buy some decent players, I think he's as good as anyone we've had in the SEC era to deliver.

Also, the team we almost beat on Saturday (and lead for a good part of the game) is now the #1 team in the country.

We'll see how the rest of the season goes, but that's a pretty decent measuring stick that things are on the right track.

Please point any time in our SEC Basketball history that you're using as a benchmark for your daily demands of excellence from Paris. :)
LOL, You would have thought by the comments and hype this guy was the next coming of John Wooden, He is 1/2 a game (because of less games) than Arkansas from being in DEAD LAST and NO Wins in the conference, I could do that, so yes, I was expecting more. So if that bothers you, So be it!! LIKE I SAID we will wait and see what happens the remainder of the YEAR, but this team is NOT GOOD!! Sure they have a Moral victory with a close loss, I guess their opponent was really " off their game" that night!!

What? He recorded our best season ever on record in his second year and got us back to the tournament after a very long drought, so I think he might deserve a little credit.

We've played a total of 3 games in the SEC so far -- all of them in the Top 15 in the country -- and you're concerned about our ranking in the Conference?

The season is just getting started.

Why were you expecting more when we lost much of our best talent from last season?

It's a different world now. Many players are one and done.

Are you trolling now or just not sleeping? You're about the only one I know who doesn't believe Paris was a good hire.

Paris is a good coach, he gets the most out of the talent he has. We just don’t have a lot of talent. Got to buy better players if we want to be good. That’s the world we live in now.

So emotional!

OK, COD. We're buddies but let's take the gloves off for a minute. :)

Criticisms about the current state of play is one thing.

However, the "We suck" and "Paris better...blah, blah, blah" when we're 10-6, beat our ranked rival, and are just entering conference play is quite reactionary given how last season went.

I personally don't see the point in getting all worked up over a game, a set of games, or even a season for that matter.

If you do that, Paris is axed after his 1st season and we don't go 26-7 and make the NCAA after a very long drought.

If you do that, Beamer is gone last season and we don't get to enjoy the ride we had this year.

If you do that, Spurrier is axed in 3rd season when he loses 5 games in a row to close out a 6-6 year.

You're basically churning coaches at will at USC given our history.

Last night, we lost by 3 to a 15-3 Vandy team in their building who is probably a #6-7 seed in the NCAA tournament if it started today.

Saturday, we lost to the best team in the country by 3 points and lead for much of that game.

We didn't get the wins, but I don't see how that is sucking on any level.

Your serve.

Agreed pal. Hopefully you do understand the Frustration, I guess the worst part is THEY ARE NOT fun to watch. I have been to a couple games and no excitement. Lets hope it improves, but they just look like they are going out expecting to lose (IMO), so that is on the coaching (IMO). Maybe i am Unfairly judging them based on how hard the Girls seem to play Game in and Game out.
Hope this wasnt a Double Fault..

I am a Gamecock fan through and through, and I agree with cod that we are not fun to watch. It’s a little bit better when you are at the game and can a watch for things the TV doesn’t show. But if you are watching on TV it is not a lot of fun.

I've felt that way for a long time about not only Carolina Basketball - but College Basketball in general.

Occasionally, you'll get a good game to watch, but it's rare.

We had ten years of Frank Martin. Outside of the Final Four run, there were maybe 10 games that were fun to watch.

It's difficult to use fun as a metric anymore.

The game against Auburn last Saturday wasn't gripping, but we played the best team down to the wire....so we pretty decent even though we're not fun to watch.

Same thing with Vandy in their last game to some extent. Vandy is a very good team and that game with tight and messy.

This year's shooting % isn't great, so they are leaning more on the defensive side which obviously plays into watchability as well.

So Ward.,
I value your opinions, Why is this team losing?? Youu are obviously sure it isnt coaching, is it lack of Talent? Dont say tougher schedule, because that is used enough here in Carolina...

I admit to being disappointed. But, I will not throw in the towel right now. It's too early. I believe Paris is a good coach. I just have a hunch we will finish much, much stronger than we look now.

One thing to keep in mind regarding Paris: As Head Coach at Chattanooga, his teams improved from year to year to year. That string might very well break this year. But, that does not mean we won't finish strong.

Thanks COD. We lost much of our talent from last year who carried us.

Meechie, Cooper, Mack, Gray, & Clark off the top of my head.

Meechie and Cooper were the most important players on the team.

Mack, Gray & Clark were all great role players who helped control the paint.

Boyles is a stud but he needs more help.

Not to mention, we've played nothing but NCAA Tourney bound teams in the SEC so far.

Let's see how we fair with #23 UGA this weekend. That should be a good measuring stick.
