The focus of the defense was on run defense. Mississippi State is primarily a running team, particularly with their staring quarterback out this week, so look for that to be the primary focus as the week goes on.
One source believes the offensive line is better with James Thompson in the mix.
Chris Smelley had a solid practice. He always looks relaxed, but I hear he seems to be even more relaxed than usual with the starting role in his possession. The thing he does best is getting rid of the ball quickly and on time. He reads the defense quickly and throws the ball to a spot just like Spurrier has taught him to do.
Both Dion Lecorn and Mark Barnes saw an increase in reps with the first team.
The coaches have worked hard on showing the players the film of the missed opportunities against LSU. There were a few plays in that game that could have changed the entire complexion of the contest and all of them went LSU’s way. That trend has to change in order for Carolina to win some of the big games they have remaining on their schedule. The players now understand that completely.
