Not sure how I feel about this. Interesting, though, and funny:

I think this is a good argument for having the entire season forfeited and probation slapped on both programs for the next season. No team has the right to take a dive and mock the integrity of the game. Refund tickets to the suckers who paid and take the supplements from the coaches. The hammer has to fall here or we will see it repeated down the road. I gotta disagree with you on this one Chick it ain't funny. Too bad shaving is not illegal in high school; or is it ?

Get rid of consolation games. It's the structure of the competition that is the problem. Yes, both teams were wrong but having consolations games is also wrong.

In the last game of my senior year in baseball (highschool), my team found itself in a position of needing to win by a certain number of runs to make the playoffs. Win differential was one of the tiebreakers and that's where we were. I think we had to win by 3 runs to make the playoffs.

We were up by either 1 or 2 for three innings in a row and intentionally walked in the tying run in each inning in order to get another shot to get to a three run victory. We got the first two outs in each of these innings before walking every player thereafter until the score was tied. Then we went after the third out. We succeeded in doing this for, I believe, three innings and eventually lost on the fourth try.

Craziest game I ever played in.

Agree with Cola, a bigger problem is the seeding of the tournament.

sounds to me like this is one of those playoffs where every team in the district makes the playoffs. Sad that we have come to this as it makes the word competition meaningless.

Crazy indeed. Note that your team was trying to make the playoffs period. Those teams were both already in the playoffs and just (not) playing for favorable seeding.

The issue has nothing to do with consolation games per se. Back when the NCAA had consolation games, they were to determine third place in the region/nation, not for playoff seeding. Perhaps the issue may be that there are too many playoff qualifiers. But that's a matter for the Tennessee Secondary Schools Activities Association (SCHSL equivalent).

While I agree that the mockery of the game and the people who paid

having to watch something like this is not humorous, some of it is kind of funny if you think about how hard these kids had to work NOT to play well.

Guess my sense of humor can be a little dark sometimes.

I do feel bad for the parents and fans who traveled and paid to watch this, and I agree with the punishment. I imagine also that the parents and fans knew the deal as far as what the outcome meant.

You have to agree it's "interesting" though, Jim. At least that... "Interesting" means "of interest." Hopefully it will provoke a good discussion about seeding, etc.

And if you don't really have a specific rule against it? Someone will try to break it. I found that out when I was cheerleading coach for 20 years and my contract/rules ended up being 10 pages long.

Camden. I'm online now teaching for a public charter school. I tell

parents at orientation we don't have two things: a prom or sports.

Thank God! I can focus on Carolina.
