We just lost to a bottom dweller. Period. No more. Coaching sucks, hitting sucks, defense sucks and offense sucks. Players are really not giving their all. So yes, at this point they have a tendency to suck. Get over it. Entitlement mentality has pervaded the minds of this team and coaching staff. And most of the fanbase. JMHO

Might just be a rumor (and the same would've been the case last weekend when we beat a strong Vandy team), but we all know something is wrong with baseball presently! I've heard from sources I'm close to that the team is grumbling amongst themselves about playing time, etc. Not a united group! To me that could be a normal situation the head coach needs to be strong enough to handle. I'm all for Chad Holbrook - I think most would want him to win & be the guy to lead us to more championships - but if that IS the case, we need someone to get that worked out. I'm sure that's a problem in a LOT of schools with winning programs & loads of talent.

I'm not so sure we have loads of talent at this point, maybe we have loads that need more development?

It really shouldn't matter if the playing time is the issue. Chad should have gotten ahold of that by now. If we were 10-15 games in the season, I would get it. We have the talent. I don't think there are many that would question that. What we need are several things. Coaching, leadership and dedication by those that get the time. KMART is the senior leader, but he has failed to get timely hits. It just strikes me that this team can't pull together. That to me indicates a lack of coaching. Not a lack of talent.

The talent is there. Not saying championship talent by any means, but we should be playing a lot better than we have. Looks like fundamentals aren't preached & they have no direction.

I agree completely gb 80. I guess I just don't get CH'S lack of demonstrative ability. He and all of the staff are well seasoned at this program. It's not like we are starting from scratch. He just doesn't seem to possess the fervor necessary to get them on point. For that matter, neither do the rest of the staff or players. Unfortunately, we were at a crossroads I feel in this weekends series. It was basically now or never mind. I guess the entitlement feeling has permeated this team as a whole, and they are reaping the rewards that go along with that. Sad, I MO.

Sometimes teams don't have chemistry. Or charisma. So far, this one doesn't. Can still happen but times runnin out.

I agree iceman. I thought this weekend would be paramount in getting into the rest of the season. This was a gimme in the old days. TN is not very good and it would have put us at 500 for the conference with a sweep and given the team confidence and momentum. Now we will need to take the rubber match just to save face, whether we win by 1 or 100. Very disappointed in the coaching staff and the team as a whole.

Two words...Five Points. I have no idea how much it contributes to the performance (i.e., W-L); however, when my son recently informed me of how hard the baseball team parties and is in Five Points during the season, I started thinking that it all makes sense.

Our baseball fan base are just spoiled .

Exactly this. A poster above criticizes the players for "having a sense of entitlement" while he and other posters wail like a pack of coyotes because we have declined from our status as back to back champions. I'd like just once for one of them to answer the questions, "What in Carolina's collective DNA makes us better than LSU, Texas, Southern California, UCLA, and all other past CWS champions who have experienced similar declines after wining it all?
What made our runs in Omaha even more incredible is the fact that we are a much smaller state than any of these others ,with a much smaller population and recruiting base, and us wining it all not once but twice can be compared to Bolivia conquering the world militarily. Ray Tanner commented in an interview after the 2010 CWS that the team that just won it was not his most talented, nor the most talented in Omaha that year, but just played the game with the love and respect for each other that enabled them to beat teams much better than they were. You can recruit talent, but you can't recruit those type of intangibles from a bunch of high school players who've never met one another, you just have to hope that every once in a long time, it'll develop before your eyes and great things will happen. Until then, you're struggling to be competitive within you own conference.

agree 100%

There is nothing wrong with fans expressing disappointment in a teams year. There is nothing the fan can do, even when disappointed but continue to support the team and it's coaches. That's the way life is. But there is something wrong when other fans piss and moan about fans expressing their thoughts in an open forum. Deal with it.

If guys are upset about play time, then they NEED TO HIT THE FN BALL when they get some PT. It seems over half our team is batting around .150!!

I think most of the problem is not "not winning or attending the CWS" . The problem is we are not even competitive in the SEC on a day to day basis and we lose to programs that are not funded at a fraction of our program. I also see us losing by larger scores as the year goes on. The bad breaks and close loses are not the problem. We are getting beat soundly on most days and now a one run loss seems like not such a bad thing compared to what happened the day before. We have everything in place to win....and yet we aren't. If this program slipped for a year then OK. This is an ongoing, progressive, slipper slope.....you can paint it anyway you want to but their is something very wrong with this program as of late.

May be on to something

I support my team winning not losing. They need to fix this BS. We fans don't deserve to have to put up with these kind of seasons. We ARE a good fanbase. We deserve better teams. This "here is your miserable year, and your going to take it and like it," garbage doesn't fly.

You were saying searooster? Chad is a great #2 man. He was the yang to Tanners yeng. Good cop, bad cop so to speak. Great recruiter and evaluator while Tanner ran the dog and pony show and handled the team. Now he has to do it all and I am not sure he is up to the task. Tanner will not and should not fire him after this year, IMO. But if it doesn't get better fast, he will have no choice. Bad evals on talent are apparent, bad game management is apparent, and bad team chemistry is very apparent. Just the facts jack.

did i just here right........first sec series win for tennessee since 2006?......is that right?

well, thats not acceptable.....something needs to change.....what, i dont know......but this is getting ridiculous

My opinion is there was a miss on talent. The team besides 2 or 3 players can't hit. The fielding is bad and aside from Wynkoop so is the pitching. Next year will have to have a whole lot of new talent. If not, the record next year will be worse.

This is always a funny thing to me about players. They don't produce when they are in there and fail to see that is why they aren't in there... It's always they need more chances. Well produce. Parents especially are the worst! play who produces the most

Like readrooster said, right now we are not even competitive. For the most part. I'll still pull for them, and sing the programs praises down here, but I really think Tanner has to ask Chad to change his staff.

I agree with the staff changes but who goes? Esposito and Myers are all Tanner hires. I doubt they're going anywhere.

Lawman, I think Meyer is the first. He did a good job at OD , but he didn't get the pitchers he needed to be successful for the most part. Bye bye. Next, get a frickin dedicated hitting coach. That should cure a lot of ills. Then, fielding. We have not been this bad in years. Again, I think Chad is in over his head. If I was a guru who could fix it, I would apply for a job, you know. :)

Holbrook was supposed to be a hitting coach. Honestly, we were pretty bad at hitting even during the NC runs but our pitching and defense was so outstanding we were almost unbeatable.

Not being a good hitting team finally caught up with us in 2012 against Arizona in the CWS title games. They were pretty much equal to us in pitching and fielding, but had a decided advantage in hitting. Otherwise, we probably get three titles in a row.

The Arizona pitching was not equal to ours. Our hitting was so bad we couldn't do anything with a guy basically lobbing the ball right down the middle in that last game. So yeah, our bad hitting caught up to us in that series.

Both are right. Zona didn't really equal our pitching per se, but they didn't need to. They bombed us from the batters box, and were equal in fielding defense. I know Chad is the supposed hitting coach. I have been told he has delegated that considerably the last 2 years. However, he was the main recruiter during Tanners last couple of years and we moved decidedly towards more short game from gorilla ball. Most from necessity because of the bat changes, but Tanner is a prolific game manager and motivator. In my opinion, Chad manages the game more like Fox than Tanner. And without solid hitters, that is a problem. Fox and Chad prefer great field presence over more run of the mill type kids who are good at both, not really great at either. Tanner taught to hit, and perfected the fielder. To me, that is the difference. Even during gorilla ball days, Tanner took really good hitters and worked them into really good fielder's. But we seem to be struggling in both under Chad. Hence, a separate hitting coach to perfect decent hitters into good situational hitters is needed. I believe good fielding is inherent for the most part. Instinctual. Hitting, seeing the ball, understanding the recognition of ball rotation etc is taught for the most part. Again, JMO.

I answered your question.....with a very reasonable response...

The retort at the end was Bill Murray in Stripes. Book 'em Danno was from Hawaii 5 O. Try to get something right if you want to be good at it.

I believe I now see why you can't answer a simple question about college baseball, you've spent your whole life in front of the television watching Hollywood police dramas. Your "attempt" at an answer failed in any way to address the question I presented regarding similar struggles by other CWS winners and instead you gabbled incoherently about the yen and yang of bad cops and god cops, again demonstrating that you watch too many Hollywood police dramas to take part in any meaningful sports discussion.

You sound like Carolina75 with the "compared to other programs" mentality. It's so much easier to justify the downward spiral in Carolina baseball by using historical trends of other top programs than to place responsibility like it should be placed on the current coaching staff. Basically this is just making an excuse for Holbrook. I see a direct correlation between the drop off in the baseball program and the only man in charge since it began-you know, the one who's never managed before.
