Olympics: Are there enough events left where the USA is favored to win Gold, to overtake China?***

As of now they're 5 behind. I know they have basketball and golf left. I'm sure there's some others. The US is 19 medals ahead of China as of today.
I'm not sure what else China is favored in that's left but it's looking to be close. We have a good shot at men and womens basketball, women's golf, Baseball, women's water polo and women's indoor volleyball gold. Also decent shot at the 4 x400 for both men and women as well.

I've enjoying my favorites, swimming, diving, parts of track and field and gymnastics.
Well, I wonder if we have a decent shot at Keirin? I would love to see the USA win a Gold medal in that event. LOL!

China won the men’s ping pong. Just watched it. Wish I could play ping pong like that.
if you pick the sports you like, there is some good competition there. I like competition at high levels of skill, and mix in the different nations and there is some entertainment there worth watching for me. Not as much as 30 years ago, so I pick my spots.

The first full Olympics I watched was in 1972, Mark Spitz winning all of those Gold Medals in swimming was fun. I couldn't wait to get home from work every night and watch them. I've tried to catch most of both the Summer and Winter Olympics ever since.

We are only four behind right now. I think we have at least two more coming in men's and women's basketball. I don't know how many other events that we may be favored to win.
2 down now the 4x400 were won by both men and women. We keep getting 2nd place is so many events down the stretch. Women's basketball we should be favored but volleyball, and 2 boxing matches are all we have left with direct Gold medal opportunities.
We are within two Gold Medals now, boy I wish there were three events left, which we were favored for Gold, to over take China.

What happened to our boxing program? The networks haven’t shown very much. Is it because our team is weak?
Come on Dawn and Aja. The US can still catch China in golds but the USA already has a large lead in total medals. This has been a fantastic Olympics for the Americans.

So is it a new thing for an athlete in a physical sport to get penalized for hitting too hard, kicking too hard or being too aggressive? I've been watching some karate, boxing and wrestling today and can really remember which sport was calling what, but some of that stuff seemed a bit strange for the sport it was.

If we had Forrest Gump on our ping pong team, we would have won.
I thought we were going to win Gold in the horse jumping competition but we lost out in the very end.

On a different subject, I have always enjoyed the Opening and Closing Ceremonies but tonight's Closing Ceremony is going to be quite different because most of the athletes have already gone home due to the Tokyo protocol of the athletes being required to leave Japan within 48 hours. But anyway hopefully the closing ceremony perform performed by Japan will be entertaining. Also, for some reason I love to watch the hosting country past the torch to the next hosting city/country.
