My wife has a Kindle Fire 7 she has had for years. I wanted to get her a Kindle 8 for Christmas and asked her did she want a Kindle 8. She stated she liked her Kindle 7 just fine and let me say she uses it each and everyday. I think the reason she don't want a Kindle 8 is because she thinks she would have to manually transfer over her e-mails, books, etc. But what I have found out is if you use the same account as the Kindle 7 you will have access to all of that information on a Kindle 8

This is my question, is a Kindle 8 significantly better than a Kindle 7? As I said earlier she uses her Kindle 7 everyday to read books, e-mail, etc. So if a Kindle 8 is better I'm going to go ahead and get it for her and if she doesn't like it I will simply send it back.

But would love to hear opinions.

Thanks in advance

My wife is comfortable with her years-old iPad, and resists any changes that involves technology. So, if yours is anything like that, and if the Kindle Fire 7 is still working fine, leave it alone! ;)

As to Kindle file transfer, I can't speak for anything other than the ebooks purchased from Amazon, but for those, no worries. They are all actually kept on the Amazon servers and are downloadable to ANY device, PC, IPhone, Android phone, etc., where you use the Kindle app and log in with the same account. If you set it up to do this, it can even sync your reading among the devices, so if you "put a book down" on one device, and then "pick it up" again on a different device, it will remember where you were.

I recently got an 8. I still read from my 7, although it has a cracked screen. I keep a book going
on each kindle and switch back and forth. The 8has a few features that make it a little better.
She want lose a thing by getting the 8. It’s all in the cloud, not on the device!

Let me ask this question. Is the screen of an 8 easier to read than a 7? Naturally, it would be to some degree but is it a lot easier to read than a 7. That would be the main thing for her.

Freddie, To me the Kindle 7 is better for reading than the Kindle 8, because the 7 is still small enough that you can hold it in one hand. The 8 is better is if you want to sometimes watch some "TV" or films off of Amazon Prime. As others have noted, syncing with Amazon is generally not a problem. Get her a microSD card too.

I also have a Kindle 7, and I can understand why your wife stated that is okay with her current device and doesn't want a new one.
This tabled is pretty cool, but as I use it only for reading, I see no reason to buy a new one which is more expensive.
I just recently stumbled upon this site, yourcoursetextbook.com, where I can download cheap pdf textbooks, so buying a new device is the last thing I would think about.
If your wife also loves reading, then buy her a few PDF textbooks, so she could read them on her Kindle 7.

To answer one of your questions that hasn’t been answered.... I can’t remember what version I have, but my old version died and I got a new one. All the books I had on the old one automatically downloaded on the new one when I signed my Amazon acct into the new one. I can’t say which version is better because I only use for book reading and nothing else, but I love them because they’re relatively cheap and therefore easily replaceable.

I went through this with my wife and her nook. Her old one was fine just needed a pair of plyers to get the charger in it. Lol. Bought her a newer version of the same. Same screen and lighting just did a little more. She hated it. Still using her old one every day, plyers in hand. The new one stays in the kitchen functioning as a recipe book, mostly used by me. We dont talk about it.

Speaking of the “Cloud”, I keep getting messages from my iPad and iPhone that my “cloud storage is full” and they want me to pay “somebody” 2 or $3.98 per month to get more storage! Is this just a rip off?
