OT: Best single line in a song

You wack, you're twisted, your girl's a ho
You're broke, the kid ain't yours, and e'rybody know
Your old man say you stupid, you be like, "So?
I love my baby mother, I never let her go"

Listen, yo' ass is about to be missin'
You know who gon' find you, who, some old man fishin'
Grandma wishin' your soul's at rest
But it's hard to digest with the size of the hole in your chest

The Great DMX lol

They said there was a secret chord that David played to please the lord ,

But you don’t really care for music do ya??

It goes like this the fourth the fifth,
The minor fall and the major lift ,

The baffled king composing Hallelujah,

Leonard Cohen .. also anybody that knows a little music theory can appreciate the hidden genius in these lyrics .

Anything by Cohen is a masterpiece .

Lynyrd Skynyrd- Simple Man

Best lyric:
Boy don't you worry.
You'll find yourself.
Follow your heart,
and nothing else.”

Best song lyrics ever written ihmo:

Mama told me when I was young
"Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day"
"Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget, son, there is someone up above"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can"
"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can"
Oh yes, I will
"Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can"
Baby, be a simple, really simple man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple, kind of simple man

My personal favorite LS :

Lord I can’t make any changes ,
All I can do is write it In a song ,

I can feel the concrete slowly creeping ,
Lord take me and mind before that comes ,

Man, I could write a book on this post. Too many great lines from so many different writers, but for me, it is almost impossible to get much better than Counting Crows. Adam Duritz is a nutjob but can write like very few....

"The price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings."
-Counting Crows

"It's four thirty a.m. on a Tuesday
It doesn't get much worse than this
In beds in little rooms in buildings in the middle
of these lives which are completely meaningless
Help me stay awake, I'm falling.
-Counting Crows

"Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog where no one notices the contrast of white on white, and in between the moon and you, the angels get a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right. I walk in the air, between the rain, through myself and back again to where? I don't know."
-Counting Crows

My other favorite writer.....

"You alone, with those pills.
What you couldn't do, I will.
I'll forgive you." - Matthew Ryan

"There's only one light on in the house
And that's the light up in the hall
And it's shining on the back of my head
And I'm concentrating hard
On the cigarette, to the ashtray
From the ashtray back to my lips
So I lean up from my easy chair
I rub my three day beard
And give that thousand yard stare
As I recall all the time and the money we spent
Before I became irrelevant." - Matthew Ryan

People are crazy
Times are strange
I’m all boxed in
I’m out of range
I used to care...
....but things have changed

And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Just let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin. @2:25

Not exactly in spirit of thread but just to hear this line sung by Billy Ward-Beside a Garden Wall. Wow!
Stardust is name of song and at about 1:55 if you don't want to listen to entire song:

Fight For LSU” Lyrics

Like Knights of old, Let’s fight to hold
The glory of the Purple and Gold.
Let’s carry through, Let’s die or do

To win the game for dear old LSU.
Keep trying for that high score;
Come on and fight,

We want some more, some more.
Come on you Tigers, Fight! Fight! Fight!
for dear old L-S-U.

RAH!

“Hey Fighting Tiger” Lyrics
Hey, Fightin’ Tigers, Fight all the way
Play, Fightin’ Tigers, win the game today.
You’ve got the know how,
you’re doing fine,

Hang on to the ball as you hit the wall
And smash right through the line

You’ve got to go for a touchdown
Run up the score.

Make Mike the Tiger stand right up and roar.

ROAR!

Give it all of your might as you fight tonight
and keep the goal in view.

Victory for L-S-U!

Love that song. Who woulda thunk a song sympathetic to the Southern cause would have even been released and then become a hit. I have it in my library of course.

"The Titanic sails at dawn." - Bob Dylan, Desolation Row

Gives me chills.

This is a great Bluegrass song.

Always marry an ugly girl 'cause thats the only kind. She'll never ever leave you and if she does you won't mind.

My daddy married an ugly girl and thought that she'd be true, then came along the milkman and I am living proof.

My brother married an ugly girl he thought he had it made, everytime she got undressed the neighbors pulled the shades.

My uncle married an ugly girl the family got uptight, they had a formal wedding so they paint the shotgun white.

Uncle married an ugly girl, she drank from a special cup, she had a great big upper lip, but the lower lip covered it up.

When you make love with an ugly girl, she never wants to quit, because she thinks that it's the last that she'll ever get.

Nothing too deep, but the first line that came to my head was Gin Blossoms from "Hey Jealousy"

If you don't expect too much from me
You might not be let down

The Beatles “and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love...you make”

I think her name is Lucy but they all call Loose
I think I thought I seen her on eighth and forty-deuce.

And as an afterthought, this too must be told: Some people have taken pure bullshit and turned it into gold.

I was drunk the day my ma got out of prison. And I went to pick her up in the rain. But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck.... she got runned over by a damned ole train. David Allen Coe

So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
And realize you're living in the golden years
