I can't support capital punishment. Murder is wrong if you're a person and it's wrong if you're the state.
I'd be in favor of capital punishment if I had any confidence in the state to hold fair trials.Hope you feel that way if someone murders your mother, wife, son, or daughter.
Have they decided the method of death yet?

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"He is a scourge to mankind! If they were to throw him off a cliff tonight it wouldn't be soon enough! Eye for an eye ,
Maybe it doesn't but sometimes the world is better off without certain people.Life in jail is punishment. The death penalty doesn't reduce crime.
Except we are talking about a terrorist here. This is hardly the case I would hang my argument on to criticize capital punishment. Death is really too kind to this POS.My, my,my...the USA is suppose to be the moral compass for human rights in the world...Yet we put people to death...
I remember all those 1970s and beyond parade magazines that talked about countries with Human Rights abuses....what is so funny and almost comical is that the USA was never on the list...imagine that....
All the abuses that have been done to Women, Blacks, Gays, Japanese Americans, Jews, etc. And we are the moral compass for the world....no wonder we're so hated around the world...we are the pot calling the kettle black..
I would hate to guess how many innocent people have been put to death in America...
The one thing that is really comical about this barbarianism, is the condemned get to decide what to eat before they are executed....
Sure, if the entire world is made of terrorists who bomb innocent people."An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"
It's a shame he wasn't shot dead in that boat 2 yrs ago. Now he'll become a lightning rod for bleeding hearts and jihadists alike.
Our country isnt "perfect" but I think we are still the best option out there. My, my,my...the USA is suppose to be the moral compass for human rights in the world...Yet we put people to death...

While it's true there have been botched trials that resulted in convictions, this ain't one of them. This is as close to a sure thing as we'll ever see. We need not lose any sleep wondering if we're executing the wrong guy.I'd be in favor of capital punishment if I had any confidence in the state to hold fair trials.

True, but drill that down to an individual instead of a country, and dont we all have "baggage"? That doesnt mean you are a bad person (or bad country)....America has "baggage" but we usually correct our wrongs over time, and normally faster than other countries.I don't know about that....Canada, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland....I'm sure America is way down the totem pole...
We have a lot of baggage here in America....just ask an American Indian, a Older Jew, an educated Black man, a gay athlete, a woman how holds public office, etc....
I love my home in The mountains of Tennessee, my companion, my neighbors, my dawg, the appalachian trail, my family in SC & NC, my bank account, my friends who make up some of the groups that I listed...this is what makes me feel safe and secure....outside of this, You can have the rest....
Pretty obvious that it was a show trial. They didn't mount a defense, he just sat in the corner drugged out of his mind. The main evidence is that the government instantly knew that he was the bad guy, never mind the footage of him show a different color backpack and footage of defense contractors with backbacks matching the bomb. Somehow his brother being an FBI informant never made it into the trial either. While it's true there have been botched trials that resulted in convictions, this ain't one of them. This is as close to a sure thing as we'll ever see. We need not lose any sleep wondering if we're executing the wrong guy.
Perhaps you're right, I don't know because I've never seen any reliable statistics. But I know something else that doesn't reduce crime; allowing crazy terrorists to spend the rest of their lives writing manifestos and further warping the minds of thousands of followers who dream someday of taking over so they can free this "political" prisoner. They may characterize him as a martyr when he's executed but if he is allowed to live another 60 years or more, he will influence untold number of future generations of jihadists.
Indeed, it would have been best if he'd lost his life in that boat that day. But the humanitarian sentiments of our society dictate that law enforcement make every effort to save the life of an injured subject - something you will never see in the regimes that subject idolizes.
The America of civility is the one that I love. The one of vengeance and hate, on all sides of the aisle, I can live without.
Maybe you would be so kind as to relay your thoughts on the perfect justice for someone that sets off a bomb with the intent to kill as many people as possible. I'm sure the families of the deceased would love to hear it.
It is a deterrent. A murderer who is executed will never commit another murder. A life sentence gives a prisoner no incentive to behave himself. Convicted murderers who have been given a life sentence have sometimes escaped or have even been released by some crazy judge and have killed again. The death penalty gives incentive to some who are involved in a murder to turn state's evidence. He should have life in prison. No one is going to convince me that it's right for the state to commit murder. If it's wrong for a person, it's wrong for the state, especially since it's no deterrent to crime.

Isn't it a wonderful country that kills innocent baby's by the thousands but can't stand to put a murderer to death? Does anybody else see a problem here?
Do you also know how many people have been murdered by the state that were innocent? It is a deterrent. A murderer who is executed will never commit another murder.
