Mississippi scores on their first shot of the game at the 1:43 mark. Mississippi 1 South Carolina 0

We have six players in various stages of ACL surgery/recovery and damned if all six of them aren’t defenders. We also had one who would have started transfer out.

We were forced into a three back defense last night not just because we were trailing but also numbers.

In the decade prior to this year we had a string of all SEC/All American central defenders Taylor Leach, Paige Bendell, Kayleigh Kurtz, Grace Fisk, and Anna Patton. Kurtz, Fisk, and Patton were DPOY.

Add to that 4 years of Mollie Patton, 3 of Sabrina and 4 of Kryzowski in goal and we led the league in GAA almost every year.

Heather Hinz is a very good to excellent GK and Jyllissa Harris who has been forced into central defense and out of her holding midfield position will make an NWSL roster next year.

Eskew was the only defender starting who isn’t a converted F or MF. We have talent, speed and athleticism but it is not a cohesive or at times fundamentally sound unit. It also doesn’t have an enforcer. All those defenders I mentioned would put you on your ass if it was required, even Fisk.

One year Against the taters, they were really cheap shotting us. Kurtz tackled a F on the sidelines. The girl ended up sitting on her ass against the wall for the stands,12-15 ft away. Clean play no foul. To add insult to injury, Kurtz stared down the tater coach and said, “Enough!”
DJ would have been proud
