OT: Columbia Dining & Nightlife

A good friend of mine will be in Columbia for the Kenny Chesney show in late March. He knows I went to USC, so he asked me to recommend (1) an "upscale" place to eat dinner Friday night, and (2) suggestions for nightlife Friday and any good bars or breweries Saturday.

I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't visited Columbia much since 2007, and the places I frequented in my college days & early 20's I'm not about to recommend to this guy. So I'm hoping some of you can help me.

Demographic is early 40's, somewhat conservative. Any suggestions?

Dinner: Oak Table, Bourbon, Cola's, Hampton Street Vineyard, Ristorenti Divino (sp). Motor Supply, Terra, (West Columbia) and Blue Marlin.

Bars: Bourbon, Oak Table, Cola.

These are not college type bars or restaurants.

Well, I haven't lived in Columbia for 29 years, but Al's Upstairs Italian across the Congaree River had/has pretty good food, and the view of downtown was very nice as well.

Hampton street vineyards, motor upply and rest. Divino take reservations as does oak table.....4 star dining.

Gervais and Vine is interesting and a little eclectic. I always like the food if you like Tapas.
