I lived in Greenville County back then so those in the upstate are the ones I knew the most about.
Here goes:
Greenville HS - Slick Moore was a great coach and seemed to always have excellent teams.
Easley HS - not sure who the coach was but they were always good.
Greenwood HS - Pinky Babb had it going on down there
Gaffney HS - I think Bob Prevette was the HC there in the 70's. They were always hellacious.
Woodruff HS - had a legendary HC, who's name escapes me. They dominated.
Summerville HS - McKissick coached from the end of WW2 up until about 10 yrs ago. They were a machine.
Lower Richland HS - Mooney Player was the man. They came up to WHHS (Greenville) to play us right around 1970.
They we small but quick and lightning fast. Double & triple reverses, they threw the kitchen sink at you.
Greer HS - was always good. Great some years but always good.
I might be wrong on a couple of the coach's names. Please double check me. This is not a full list. It is the one's I can remember as being outstanding HS football programs.
