Well, I've heard worse for sure. I HATE when singers try to turn the National Anthem into their own personal top 40 hit. This is one song that should be sung as written, period!
He didn't butcher it as bad as I've seen it butchered...that is up until the last note. He should NOT have tried to put his personal stamp on that last note. I was melancholy about his performance until that last note, then went thumbs down. But not by a whole lot. He was actually not far off from doing a good job IMO.
All in all, a fairly forgettable performance, (I can live with that), which is better than we can say about Roseanne's version.
