OT: Mel Tucker and Michigan State

I'll offer this argument for the MSU coach: out of 22 commitments for 2022, he has FOUR 4*'s. Why can't we get a coach/staff that can recruit like that?

LSU pretty much turned this from a big deal into a non-story
At least Lincoln Riley is a championship level coach with a bunch of conference titles and multiple CFP appearances. He's also coached up several Heisman caliber quarterbacks with a strong history of electric offenses. Sure it's a ton of money, but at least he has a resume to somewhat justify it.

Well, if Tucker is worth $95 million by comparison of resumes, Riley should be worth at least $150 million.

Good point. I don't think either are worth that kind of money. It's honestly pretty absurd. It's going to be interesting to see what the end result is. It's one thing when Saban and Dabo are making that kind of money. It's a whole different story when coaches a tier or two down are getting that.

Yes, I agree. It's a total reset when a coach with 3 years of head coaching experience with only one of those being a winning season gets offered $95 million. It's an arms race so other schools HAVE to get on board with paying money like that.

Michigan State is really banking on this season being the start of a trend and not an anomaly under Mel Tucker. I saw they're working on a 10 year extension worth $95 million. That is an insane amount of money for a coach without any championship track record. It will be interesting to see if that backfires on them or if turns out to be a great move.
In the words of the Steve Miller band, "take the money and run"......

Currently OSU 49 MSU 0.
MSU is Tanner ummm I mean nuts if they go ahead with it after this game

Seriously though, what do you do in this situation? One game doesn’t determine if someone is a good coach or not. But one, I don’t see how MSU can move forward on such a huge deal after this game (the optics would be outrageous), and two, MSU also can’t change the deal to a more reasonable offer and hope to keep the coach.

This story didn't age well.
