OT: Reviewing insurance policies

Recently, our family purchased a car for the first time in almost 10 years -- and -- our 16-year-old son was added to our insurance. Our rates increased significantly (obviously), so I started reviewing our policies.

Despite the high premiums, we were woefully underinsured. We had the state minimum required. That may have been fine 25 years ago, but was definitely inadequate now. We were very fortunate to have not been in an accident (knock on wood).

I suppose each time we bought a car, I called the insurance company and had it added to the policy without getting into coverages. On the flip side, we had jet ski policies with $1 million liability limits. I also upgraded our homeowner's insurance.

The insurance company that was our best option 25 years ago wasn't any longer.

Not trying to be long-winded here, but I would suggest reviewing your policies. If you have time, do some research online. Check with different companies. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples when it comes to policies.

If you don't have time or don't care to dig into the details, find someone who can help you.
