The great thing about 6 million dollar man was he was married to Farah Fawcett at the time and she appeared in three episodes. THE BEST EPISODES. Duh.
Damn, dude, you had some helluva vacations as a kid.I got to actually pet that dog during their filming. My family took a southern border trip in the summer of 1977 in a Volkswagon Vanagon. We went down to Florida, and visited both Disney World and Sea World, traveled to Louisiana down to New Orleans and visited the French Quarter, traveled to Texas and stayed in the Hyatt Regency and ate in their spinning restaurant on the top.
While we were there, Alice Cooper was having a concert at the Astrodome, and we went to that at a last minute - we loved his TV specials he had in those years - but didn't stay too long because we were just kids, and everyone around us was lighting up joints. We got a refund, which the people at the booth didn't want to give it at first, but when my mom threatened to tell the police that there were rampant pot smoking going on around her kids, they agreed to quickly (LOL).
From Texas we drove down into Mexico and went to Mexico City. We stayed at another resort village with scenic mountains and rode horses there (I cannot remember its name), then took a HUGE ferry ship from Mexico to California.
In California, we visited Disney Land (it looked older and had places with peeling paint on some rides - it was MUCH smaller than Disney World) and then visited Universal Studios. It was at Universal Studios that we saw the Bionic Dog.
We rode a trolley for tourists to the Jaws display where the mechanical shark jumped out of the water at the tourists and spit water on everyone. We drove through the rotating ice tunnel that was used in the 6 Million Dollar Man episode where he fought Bigfoot.
And then we came upon a scene that was being filmed for the Bionic Woman episode that had the Bionic Dog in it. Apparently the dog was supposed to fight some wild wolves in defense of someone. We were too far from the shooting area so no one saw the actual filming, but during a break they brought the dog that played the Bionic dog over to the trolley and let the passengers pet him, and I petted him.
It was funny - the Bionic Woman was a spin-off of the 6 Million Dollar Man, and both were on ABC initially, but after 2 seasons the 3rd season of Bionic Woman was aired on NBC, and became a competitor to the 6 Million Dollar Man which was still on ABC. Although the Bionic Woman only aired those 3 seasons, both shows (the 6 Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman) were canceled at the same time.....
Anyhow, we drove pretty much straight back in 2-3 days from California to Conway SC. We must've not done much touristing on the way back because I have very little memories of that part of the trip....
I loved that one too. It has been credited with starting the Bigfoot craze in the U. S.My alltime favorite episode as a boy was the sasquatch episode with Andre the giant. I was absolutely amazed by it lol.
My brother in law was in medical school during the show's run and he ruined it for me. There was a scene when Steve Austin used his bionic arm to lift the rear end of a semi trailer to allow someone to escape. My brother in law laughed and explained that even if Austin had a bionic arm, his spine and skeletal system would buckle under the load. The show originally aired in 1973. As a kid, I LOVED the show. Were you a real boy back then if you didn't make the "na-na-na-na-na" sound while trying to jump in slow motion off the porch or tree limbs or what have you?
In today's dollars, he'd be the $36 million dollar man. They could put a lot of tech into a human being for that amount of dough.
Since all Hollywood does anymore is re-boots, I'd check out a show called "$36 Million Dollar Man."
Me and my friend of 38 years say a lot of sayings from older tv shows/movies to each other.this show and caddyshack gets the bulk of them.whenever one of us has an injury or aching,we throw a few 6 million $$$ quotes in.Ha ha. "We can rebuild them. We have the technology. We can make them better than they was (were?). Better, stronger, faster."
Your post made me think about...The great thing about 6 million dollar man was he was married to Farah Fawcett at the time and she appeared in three episodes. THE BEST EPISODES. Duh.
You should have explained he had a bionic spine and legs too. Didn't you see him run 60 mph? That wasn't on normal legs. Of course his next point would be, well if he has that much metal in him, how does he not weigh half a ton?My brother in law was in medical school during the show's run and he ruined it for me. There was a scene when Steve Austin used his bionic arm to lift the rear end of a semi trailer to allow someone to escape.
