OT - Termite service in Columbia

You get a termite contract with the poison in the traps. You pay 100-200 yr and they check it twice a year. With that contract, if you ever have termites eating your trim and hardwoods, its covered. Anyone without a termite contract in the SE is an idiot. Those damn things have colonies all over the place.

Bait traps are the biggest rip off in the termite business, and there are plenty of rip offs in that business. Yes termites are bad in the South, however get a standard termite treatment ( est. 700.00-900.00, initial treatment last about 5 years ) and included is quarterly inspections for about 100.00 a year

What the heck is 'standard treatment'. Termites are subterranean. Bait traps are NOT a rip. The workers carry the pill to the queen...done deal. Gimme a break. Get a 'standard treatment' if you live in the north because they are'nt that bad up there. You want to kill the whole damn colony in the south.

Don't know who you are or what you do but I'll tell you this. Have several neighbors who have had to dig trenches around their homes because they neglected to get a termite contract. Me? No infestation whatsoever.

My understanding is that bonds are more common in the south east, but I wasn't sure if generally everyone got one, or if some just did a treatment with inspections.

Any recommendations on local companies? Terminix inspected when we bought the place but I understand they are sometimes expensive. Someone suggested Ledford.

In Lexington, I use Pest Management for the termite bond and a quarterly pest spraying. Under the bond, they have an annual inspection. When the treatment is due, I have them use Termidor for treatment. I had a company at the beach to quote a price using Termidor, but when they came out to start, they tried to use a different product. Said the Termidor was locked up and they couldn't get to it and the other product was just as good. I had done research and knew it was a less effective product and made them stop and call the owner. He made them come back to shop and pick up the good stuff. Do a little research with each company and definitely get some quotes.

I use Clarks. I pay $200 a year for an annual inspection and to keep my house under the bond.

House was treated when I bought the house 11 years ago. No signs since then of any issues.

I didn't do the bait traps even though the company I use recommended them. I thought they were a ripoff. Still feel that way.

Rollerdude, how much was your initial treatment? 200 a year sounds like a great deal, but I'm wondering about the upfront cost.

Call Bobby Baine at Baines Pest Control in Lexington. Best in the business & huge Gamecock supporter. Ask and he'll give you a deal. He'll shoot straight on the bait traps etc., too.

My bond is with Ledford's.

Smaller outfit with lower overhead means lower rates.

Very thorough in their treatments and yearly inspections.

Just paid my annual which was $145.
