Our Band Leadership is an example of how communicating concerns can help with change...

I emailed our stuck in their ways, arrogant, Band Leaders for over 5 years. NOTHING changed.

At first, no response from the old guys. They were almost like unapproachable “plastic people”.
I think they had that old school, beach music, social country club mentality.
Either way, they were not good communicators.

Then came George Brozak. His canned, lazy response and attitude was:
“Thanks for the suggestions, but we’re going to leave things just as they are.”

Then came Scott Weiss and Rebecca Phillips (who is now at Colorado State).
FINALLY, some folks with some sense that “get it”.

Engaging.
Open Minded.
Pro-Active.
Common Sense.
Noticed the NEED for changes.

Under their leadership:
Spell out was moved from the beginning, to the middle of the Fight Song. (Much more effective and participated in now.)

There are a TON of other positive changes of note. But, that would be a LONG post.

I’ll sum it up with this.

Rebecca commented back to me in an email.

And, I paraphrase:
”The USC fans don’t seem to understand or get the need for a “clan mentality” when it comes to unified cheers.”
(Rebecca came from LSU and Florida State influences. And, South Florida, where she wrote or created a ton of their efforts.)

Bottom Line fans,

Band Emails / suggestions fell on deaf ears for almost a decade.
I sent them again with every leadership change.

FINALLY, somebody with some open minded common sense came along.

——
We have new leadership in Bob Caslen.
What’s his email address?
I can’t find it.
I’ll gladly send some worthwhile concerns to him.

——
BUT,
Never ever give up.
