Our sloppy play and poor defense is killing us. I hope we can pull this out but if we don't it's because we were outplayed.

The Tar Hole strategy was to load up in the paint and our strategy was to try and force it in through four defenders.

Is that you Warren Jensen? I found your baseball.

Don't know about all of that. What I do know is the Gamecock women have poor fundamental defensive footwork, and they appear clueless about help side and rotational coverage. This was obviously on display tonight , but then it's been a recurring problem all season. Glad we survived and advanced, but I honestly thought the UNC kid was fouled for 3 on that last shot.

did you also notice the multiple "no calls" when our "kids" were fouled?

Things really turned when Staley started going offense and defense subs.
There was a point there, where UNC was just destroying the defense with
hand-off and dribble drives. Sessions doesn't offer much on offense, but getting her back in the game for defense was a crucial turning point.

Normally the bigs clean up a lot of the sloppy rotation and perimeter defense. That wasn't the case for much of this game.

For the record UNC shot 23-62 for 37%. We did give up SOME easy baskets and surrendered a few too many offensive rebounds but it was a good defensive effort that held them 11 PTS under their season average.

The UNC player took a dive on the last shot that was Soceer's World Cup worthy. A pitiful flop trying to fool the ref.

There is no way it is a coincidence that this team keeps giving us fits the last couple of years eve though they are not that good of a team. Someone over than has the perfect game plan for exactly how to to frustrate us. I swear many times in that game it looked like the UNC players knew what we were going to do before we did. Also the OP is right about the hustle too. We played we were not getting back on defense nearly as well as we should've been. And I don't know why Dozier played so many minutes. She is not fast enough to guard the UNC guards. She was a bad option for us. So glad we came through the other side of that battle.

She was not fouled. Watch the replay. We played sloppy most of the game and were lucky to win but I'll take it.

Our girls played tight because unc has had our number. It's like the commentators said winning was more of a relief.

We played UNC in their backyard with one of our best players on the bench due to foul trouble. We were the better team. UNC is good but we're better.

Go Cocks!
