North Greenville University baseball coach Landon Powell, who coached Neff for one season, told The Greenville News "he was a great kid."
“I loved the kid,” Powell said. “I recruited him and have known him since he was 13. I saw him at Green Valley [Country Club] back in the fall. He was always very nice.”
A former baseball standout at Travelers Rest High School, Neff was redshirted his freshman season at North Greenville, then left the school. He was listed as a redshirt sophomore for the USC Salkehatchie baseball team in Allendale, where he was a starting shortstop this season.
"Just got heartbreaking news that a former member of our program, Parker Neff, passed away today," the tweet said. "Parker was an awesome kid, always smiling, and was loved by all of his teammates. Please pray for his family, friends, and teammates during this impossible time."
Neff is the fourth USC student to die this week. Samantha Josephson, a 21-year-old USC senior, was confirmed dead Saturday morning after going missing early Friday in Five Points. Evan Jeffrey Gaines, a USC Upstate student, was shot Tuesday at an off-campus apartment, The State reported. Another student died by suicide on Monday, according to a report from The State.
