Pay the woman!*

Remember when posters used to complain about Staley getting paid more than our baseball coach? Don't think anyone is making that complaint after this weekend.

She makes more than 6 times the highest paid WNBA player. I don't know what other women's coaches make in college, but I'm guessing she's already near the top. At the same time there is no way to justify her making less than Lorenzo Ward. But she made more than Tanner did right off the bat where both coached non-revenue/break even sports only he had taken his team further.

Assume she gets bonuses for sweet 16, elite 8, and final 4. Increase them and her regular salary package too. She deserves it.

Summit made 1.4 million in 2008-2009 and over 2 million in her final season, which was considerably more than Cuonzo Martin was making at the time.

Summitt won a boatload of National Championships. I believe Dawn will win some here. She's not being underpaid but we do need to keep rewarding her because she continues to improve the program and we lead the country in attendance.

I agree. Give her a nice bump. This win also reminds me of the "stars don't matter" crowd. Dawn, Geno, and Calipari aren't doing this with just any old players. Football is no different

Coach Staley is one driven individual. She knows that she had to work her butt off to recruit here in the beginning. She'll still have to but it will get easier in time.

Geno makes a lot more, and so do a few others. We need Dawn to be happy.

Dawn is earning her keep in attendance alone. Someone on GCC a few weeks ago said they attended a women's basketball game shortly after Dawn arrived at USC and he estimated the crowd to be about 75. Now, that is a heck of a long way from 75 to averaging over 12,000 plus per game.

South Carolina has no problem paying for premium coaches. We just don't have the history or pedigree of some of the other elite programs to recruit well enough to entice elite coaches to our programs. Dawn Staley did a LOT of the heavy lifting on her own so I do expect this program to continue to progress during her tenure and I EXPECT South Carolina will pay her commensurate to her worth.

USC isn't broke. We have VERY loyal fans who would give their life savings to have our basketball (men's and women's) and football programs excel. For some reason, people around the Nation like our teams also. When I coached AAU basketball, I always had people come up and say they like our football and baseball teams. They also rooted for us against traditional powerhouses like Bama, Florida and LSU.

I'm proud of our women. I'm just hoping our MEN can get back on track (football, baseball and basketball) and win a few Championships to put us on the map (recruiting). Once that happens, the program becomes self-sustaining, assuming we pony up for quality coaching...the recruits WILL come.

You boys are missing my point.

She isn't being underpaid now. She's appreciated and I'm sure that she'll receive a nice raise for what she has accomplished. No doubt, she's one of the top 3 or 4 coaches in the country. We need to pay her well enough to keep her.

She's making more than Ray Tanner was after he won two national championships. I'm just saying that we're not treating her badly.

I don't think anyone doubts what you are saying...I think everyone has anticipated POACHERS trying to get her away from SC...and we want to make sure she knows that we aren't just trying to keep her, we wanted her the most before anyone comes calling.

So we are trying to make sure we don't get into a bidding war...we want her to WANT to be here as much as we want her here...and to not even ENTERTAIN leaving...

So it's not about whether she's being paid well...it's about letting her know that we are all in for her before someone else (inevitably) puts on the full-court press.

Dawn is more than well compensated for coaching girls basketball. Now when they can fill up more than 1/3 of the Greensboro Coliseum for regional finals, then it may reach the point where that bump in pay is required.

But in all due respect, you can't compare a women's basketball coaches salary to a college baseball coaches salary. They are two different animals, apples and oranges.
