Per Twitter spring game all-american Hunter Johnson is transferring.

What took him so long?
Clemson can't be running out of ....

Only thing I can think of is that he wanted to see where they placed him after spring practice was over. If Bryant isn't named the starter, I'd expect him to transfer also.
Now that would be wild LOL.

They have a ton of quarterbacks for sure. If the new kid is that good, and there are some indications that he is, then they just don't need the others. Besides, if they need some more quarterbacks, cash does not seem to be a problem.

If he has not as yet, that's a travesty. I dare say he earned it, and it should be his, until such time as he loses the job in the regular season.

On one hand, you want a kid to be confident enough that he can win the job, or not be afraid of competition for that job. OTOH, what are all of these highly touted QBs thinking, signing, when they see several others already there, riding the pine. Looks like the kid should have signed elsewhere to begin with. I hope Bryant does transfer, and I hope other recruits pass on the orange koolaid while sipping on this news. (Not holding my breath though)

Clemson loses to Syracuse: Doesn't count, Kelly Bryant was injured.

Clemson loses to Bama: Clemson was the better overall team, but Kelly Bryant is awful. Can't wait for TLaw to get here.

I just did. Larry williams to be a tater. He is very good at getting stories quick.

Larry is great (so is Paul Strelow) and is why I continue to be a paying member of the site.

I think is a fair assessment, he wanted to see how things shook out after spring ball. One would surmise he saw the writing on the wall. He is still a very talented kid and I wish him the best. He would be the hands down favorite to start at a lot of schools. Northwestern or Purdue are the likely destinations.

KB isn't going to transfer per reports. My guess is he is the starter to begin the season with TL getting plenty of PT and taking over as starter by mid season.

Not surprising, and you really can't blame the kid. Bryant is there, and the incumbent. But obvious that it is just a matter of time until Lawrence takes over. A lot of Clemson folks feel that they lost to Georgia a few years ago because they wanted to be a bit loyal to Cole Stoudt even though clear that Watson was the better option. They won't make that mistake again. Johnson was a very highly rated QB. Am sure he wanted to see where he stacked up against Lawrence in the spring. When he saw that he wasn't going to beat him out, he decided he wants to play as he still has a lot of potential. Can't blame him there.

If I were Bryant under those circumstances, I would. That sounds a lot like the Russel Wilson situation at NCSU.

Im waiting for all these top backs going or have gone to Georgia, to figure out their is only one football there.

Some of these top players commit and I know they are confident but its almost like they dont even look at a depth chart.

Transferring has become so acceptable and routine now, it's changing the dynamics of college football. There's a secondary scouting & recruiting process necessary now and every serious football school had better be on board with it. That applies to men's and women's basketball also - perhaps even more.

I agree, but OTOH, some act as though they've bugged staff recruiting meetings and depth chart alignment pow-wows with the HC and his Assistants.

My barber told me, he heard from his son's old English teacher that still has connections in the upstate, but doesn't pay much attention to football, that she heard that Hunter Johnson is lazy, doesn't put much time in the weight room, has a bad attitude, smokes cigarettes and watches animated porn all day, so it's really addition by subtraction. o_O

So if Brice does transfer seems to me they will be really thin at QB. Besides Lawrence who would be left in 2019?

The time to transfer is as soon as you might suspect you need to. That gets you back on the field sooner and keeps you relevant. This boy who just transfered had to make his move. He could conceivably even become a graduate transfer later before he's very old.

This thread is the first I've heard anywhere about Brice tranferring...heck, he just moved up a spot on the depth chart.

Brice hasnt transferred and have Tai Phommachanh coming next year, 4 star guy out of Connecticut. Could see them taking another in this class

I am glad he is gone. He was making eyes at my High School daughter at golf camp last year (the golf kids eat in the cafeteria at the same time the youth football camp kids do - he was helping with that.) Hopefully he will be out of there before she heads back to golf camp again in June. I would hate to have to break him like a twig.

The travesty about these two games is that Hunter Johnson was sitting on the bench was never put in either game. He is an outstanding quarterback and might have changed the outcome of the games...we'll never know.
