Question: What impact on USC's baseball attendance will the . . .

I don't think it will at all, but don't act like this team is anything like the Bombers or Capital City Stadium.

Past minor league baseball has had great teams and still couldn't muster up a lid fans...

I really don't think minor league baseball will do well here in Columbia... This has always been pipe dreams from Mayor Bob and now Mayor Steve... Spend money and watch the city go into deeper debt...

The seasons don't overlap that much and there are lots of people in Columbia that aren't USC fans. I'd like to see the new ballpark bid on hosting the SEC Baseball Tournament in the coming years. It can't be held at an on-campus park, but it can be held at a neutral field. Columbia Common, overall, is going to be a great addition to downtown Columbia.

We'll see about that. It will depend a lot on if they can control the gangbangers and the hoods from taking over.

looks like the Savannah Sand Gnats are Columbia bound. I didn't realize it until this morning's paper that Columbia is the largest market in the country without a minor league team.

Imo, little to none. What is your opinion?
I think it might have some impact on our attendance initially. But, after the newest wears off, then it will be back to being 100% Carolina.

I would think the SEC would prefer a "AA-sized stadium" or larger and one more centrally located within the SEC foorptint for hosting the tournament than is currently available in SC. This leaves out sites in TX, AR, MO, & KY as well, IMO,

Nashville's building a new stadium; I wouldn't object to the SEC tournament being there.

But there won't be much impact on attendance, except possibly midweek games in late April and May.

Re: No impact. That stadium is in a rough part of Columbia. After the first

mugging, there will be nobody at those games.
There are muggings and shootings at malls all over South Carolina and people still go there.

The mayor and every single city councilman needs to get audited. Theres no way any of them actually think the bull street project was a wise use of public funds.

Thanks for helping our argument by citing malls.
How is that helping your argument?

The point is that the crime at malls hasn't stopped or slowed people from going there and spending money.

Yes it does. Westgate mall here in Spartanburg was having trouble in the Mall on Friday and Saturday nites, mainly from teens. They place new rules on who could come into the mall after 6 pm, and the trouble has lessen. The traffic has actually increased. Just look at Columbia area, Dutch Square and Columbia Malls, people have in their heads that they are in troubled areas and they stay away.
