Basketball recruiting:
--There's not a lot to report this upcoming weekend with fall break looming but next weekend will be time for 2019 commitment Trae Hannibal. He unofficially visited in September said it's likely he'll be on campus next weekend for his official for the basketball team's exhibition game (Oct. 26) and the football game against Tennessee (Oct. 27).
He plans on signing in the early period this November to get it out of the way and focus on his season.
--One of the state's best players in the 2020 class P.J. Hall visited lsat weekend and breaks down the visit here.
Baseball notes:
--South Carolina picked up a JUCO baseball commitment last night from Wabash Valley outfielder Noah Myers. Still gathering some info on him, but he's a toolsy bat in the 2019 class. Hit slashed .318/.474/.482 in his freshman year of JUCO with five homers and 49 RBI. He also stole 20 bases.
It's a typical JUCO transfer with him coming in with the 2019 class and having two years of eligibility. I said last night and stand by it that I don't think the staff is done trying to reel in junior college players.
--They recently hosted RHP Drew Hill on a visit, getting him on camps last weekend for a visit all day. Believe he spent a lot of time with pitching coach Skylar Meade and indications were he had a really good visit. He'll make a decision sometime in the near future.
Hill's a JUCO pitcher at South Mountain Community College in Arizona. Before that he pitched one year at Utah Valley, where he spent one year. He went 0-3 and had five saves with a 5.79 ERA. Out of high school his fastball was up to 89 mph.
--Another guy they've had some contact with is corner infielder Ryan Hernandez at San Jacinto in Texas. He's been in contact with the staff and said he's hoping to work out a time to visit South Carolina soon.
He played his freshman year at Albany, starting 46 games and hitting .289 with 16 extra-base hits.
Some current recruit notes:
--2019 3B Tyler Callihan is listed by Baseball America as the No. 11 high school prospect in the country heading into this year's draft (full list here). He's getting a lot of pro looks because of the pop in his bat, which is at an elite level. Right now I don't think he's leaning anywhere, but if he gets drafted high enough the money might be too much to turn down.
--2019 LHP commit Dawson Taylor is fully recovered from labrum surgery he had last season that sidelined him almost the entire year and this summer. He was ahead of schedule in rehab and will be fully healthy this upcoming baseball season.
