USC has a history of having TOP 20 class year in and year out for the past 20 years. Sure, there are some exceptions here and there. But now with the transfer portal in place, it has changed the recruiting landscape. Transfer portal can help teams like USC (and others who know how to navigate through it) to gain personal in a quicker turnaround. Players from all over, look for some playing time. As you know, recruiting is the lifeline of a program. It has been documented that the teams that make the title game have more than 50% of their respected roster consistent of 4-5 (*) star players. Unfortunately, that means teams must be in the top ten year in and year out which USC can't sustain on a consistent basis. However, a new strategy has emerged. USC can get top 15 talent level at the High school level to get its core class of players. Then, USC can bring 5-7 transfer portal / juco guys in to fill the gaps / needs. USC can be right there! Just look at Michigan State as well.
So let get to it. How does Rivals calculate their rankings?

*Rivals only totals up the TOP 20 guys signed in each class.
With that being said, if USC signs 25 guys, then ONLY the top 20 highest ranked guys are counted, while the bottom 5 guys are not counted towards the over total points. The bottom guys count towards scholarships class and build depth while developing those players. But for RIVALS TOTAL POINT GRAND TOTAL, they only take in the TOP 20. It's their formula not mine. Then once all total points are counted for, then you can see where USC would end up VS the other teams accross the nation and SEC.
Let's use this now in today's live example.
High School Class:
GRAND TOTAL RIVAL POINTS => 2004 (1536+468) which you look it would bring us up higher from the current #21 ranking.

*This is ALL FUILD, and rankings will change more especially since the final signing period isn't until Feb; so, I will update this report again then.
Thanks for reading and enjoy!
