What's up with the second Littlejohn major $$$$$$$$$$$$ renovation in the last 13 years?

The current arena looks nice enough to me. As I understand it the "new" building will be no larger so what's the goal?
It's hard to see how seating can be increased.

Is there someone that can discuss the current arena negatives and what the improvements will be?

Probably more detail than you want, but this shows the renovation plan. I think much of the cost is in creating the new practice area and basketball operations center for training rooms, offices and the like. There is some conflicting info as to whether capacity will be increased or decreased slightly with different events requiring different seating arrangements.

The prior renovations 13 years ago were more of a "need" IMO and now it's more "wants." It is also probably the result of a little bit of the arms race in College BB. Clemson will always have difficulty being a "power" in BB, but ideally you want the coaches to have the best possible facilities to assist in getting talent to the school. I think it will look awesome when done, but I never make it up for games these days unless it's on a football weekend.

And Kebo, Clemson has no need for an 18,000 seat CLA-type facility,it is not a cost matter. This second set of renovations will run about the same amount spent building the CLA.

Everything I've read says it will be smaller and won't even have any suites. I don't get the point of it either.

EDIT -- Page 19 of the download provided by Legal above shows that the new seating capacity will be 8,904. Current capacity is 10,325.

The consensus seems to have been to create a smaller, but more comfortable fan experience. With the exception of Duke and the boys from Chapel Hill, it was rare to sell out the seats we had.

A timely article appeared a bit ago on Greenville Online that talks about Littlejohn and the other projects going on.
