committed to us in May 2013, and hasn't wavered during the 19 months since then. An instate kid with big time talent and big time offers, he understands what it means to stick to one's word. We are proud to have you, and your family, in the fold. With all of the nonsense some other players put us through, it felt good knowing we didn't have to worry about where your heart wanted to be. Thanks, Shameik!

Great to have a committed new Gamecock in Gamecock Nation. WELCOME!!

He had plenty of teams coming at him after he committed but stayed loyal and I hope he heals up and gets on the field soon.

Looking forward to seeing Shameik playing for USC.. This has turned out to be a great recruiting class..

Go Gamecocks..

Don't forget he got hurt and had surgery. The coaching staff stuck with him even after he got hurt and he stuck with his commitment.

Blackshear was a 5 star when he commited to us and at one point was potentially the overall number 1 prospect nationally.

He was injured and re-evaluated. Our coaches never wavered and neither did he. I'm excited to have him join our program.

I am glad to have him as a Gamecock. I hope he takes a redshirt and has the time to get fully healthy. This kid has never really played up to his potential ( not knocking him - - he has all the talent in the world) and a year as a redshirt will give him time to get healthy and perhaps light a fire under him. I think he will be a great one and glad he truly wanted to be a Gamecock because he could have gone just about anywhere.

Looking at Blackshear's rivals film he didn't look like a 5-star player to me. He's disruptive but doesn't have the athleticism of a Clowney or Cowart.

Are you for real with this? There hasn't been any other player as disruptive as Clowney on their HS tape since Julius Peppers was in HS!!

That at is what you think the measure of a 5* is? Whether or not they were as disruptive as Clowney? LMAO!

by that criteria there would be like one 5* player every 15 YEARS or so... Somebody trying to sound smart just proved their complete lack of knowledge about recruiting and football in general.

Blackshear was a SUPERSTAR in HS. My parents live a couple counties over from where he played and their local paper was full of articles on how great he was! His tape shows a kid with all the tools to be a major factor on any D1 team. Is he CLOWNEY? No. Clowney was like freaking superman playing vs a bunch of preschoolers in HS. Blackshear is a great talent with all the potential in the world to be an all SEC, maybe All American type player for us. No need to try to act like you know what the difference between a 4 and 5 star player is. That distinction is totally subjective BS made up by Internet sites (each has their own criteria).. But all the experts who rate this stuff said he WAS a 5* talent right up until around the time he got hurt. So, the same tapes you watched that told you he wasn't a 5* told all those guys he WAS. Subjective BS though it may be, I suspect most people would hold the opinions of recruiting analysts and coaches over yours.
