SIAP Clemson Ohio State Michigan rumor

I don't think this is over. The SEC is already the most powerful force in college football. And this has nothing to do with on the field, but in the board room. They make the rules, and now Sanky wants the SEC to write the rules themselves. He is basically building a conference so strong that it fills the void that the NCAA has left. It's all about money. And Stanky has played this perfectly. And yes, I could see a time where if the chance presented itself to get another shingle school, that the discussion might be had about how big is too big, and if maybe some folks should be banished in favor of a more powerful brand.

While we are all sitting around and hashing this idea out, does anyone think there could come a time when the SEC, or whatever one wants to call the "power football conference", would kindly dismiss the weaker football programs from this conference in order to maintain its integrity? (You know what I'm suggesting here.) One would have to hope not, but these days it seems like money and championships are driving the sport and is spawning some ideas and scenarios that only a few years ago would be considered insane.

There's only a finite number of wins in a conference schedule though. If you load up a conference with only the top 20 teams in the country, you'll have a top 20 team that can't qualify for a bowl because they only play better teams.

You have to have some bottom teams.

I know we’re all about wanting to play the best to beat the best and be the best, but that would permanently seal our fate.

But, it’s not like ever seriously competed in the SEC as it is in nearly 30 seasons.

The days of going 11-0 to get into the championship picture are probably over. Does anyone think that's bad? Lots of teams got there over the years by playing unbalanced schedules. What if a 8 or 9 win season put you in the hunt? Every game would be huge. Think NFL.

I would not enjoy UofSC being one of the bottom teams.

I don't think it will happen. Clemson has turned down SEC offers before and the Buckeyes would lose money moving to the SEC. It's just a dumb rumor.

But yes, I do know what you're suggesting. If they tried to make a super conference of all the best teams and create a new division, there would be very little need for Vandy, the Mississippis, Kentucky, and South Carolina. It wouldn't blow my mind if those programs were booted from the new super division - Tennessee would be safe despite sucking because they're so rich.
This is not as far fetched as some may think, and in my opinion does not bode well for us. The more I think about the OU/Tex additions the more I feel we will begin to regret this move. In time we may be regulated to being the Remora's of the football landscape.

Funny that you mention that. Saw a friend (UGA alum) at a neighborhood cookout last night who jokingly asked if we were changing our mascot to the Remoras.

It makes me sick to think USC is 1-6 against Kentucky the past 7 years. If that was the record against Bama or Florida, it would be slightly more understandable, if still annoying. But Kentucky???
With the likely exception of Vandy, every football program in the SEC is trying to get better. UK wasn't really trying until Mitch Barnhart was hired. UK Football had a lot of fans but until MB was hired the administration didn't want to admit it. Let alone, do anything to foster it or improve the program.

Prior to Mitch, the UKAD had two jobs;

1) Do everything possible to assist UK Basketball's dominance over any other program.

2) Block or kill any distractions, hindrances, or sports that may interfere with #1.

UK finally hired an AD that wasn't a former Rupp player or stooge. Mitch knew The SEC was a football conference and believed it should be important at UK. UK got better.

Sorry that disturbs you so...That must be how it feels when UK loses to SC in basketball...I mean WHY?
