SIAP: Presumptive University President already backed out

We had posters on here calling him a communist. I can only imagine what was on Twitter. I wouldn't take the job either.
Always found it interesting that someone would call someone who bolted from a communist country and then was vocal with politicians about being hawkish toward that country as being a communist. At least we didn't see anything blaming him COVID.

Regardless, is an engineering buy born in China and spent the last several years in Indiana going to be able to navigate the politics of the South Carolina State Government? Would they really give him a chance?

I'm not really sure who can navigate it at this point tbh. They created such a mess with Caslen that the next hire has to be a slam dunk no brainer.

I'm just not sure we have one. Based on past experience I would half expect them to name Dawn Staley the next president.

If anything repulsed him, it was likely some anecdotal accounts regarding the politics here and not any remarks by vapid individuals that might have been on this board or anyplace else.

I really was impressed with what I read about him. Unfortunate that they let it leak that he was the top person…so it had to be public that he withdrew his name!

It seems that this is the second time he's nearly left Purdue only to change his mind. Wonder if he's using opportunities like this to play Purdue to give him more of what he wants.
Possibly. But still it is frustrating (though not surprising) that this info could leak from inside the USC search. I work for a mid-size university and have been part of several high level searched and the need for total discretion is a baseline expectation of all involved.
