We also need to change our perspective on the whole player coach thing. Back in the old days, you didn't give a crap what the players thought after they signed a letter of intent. Conform or quit and play nowhere. Coaches knew what they were doing and players didn't know squat. We're not in that world anymore. Fewer players will put up with Mike Leach bullshit. Players have more options today, so having a coach that appeals more to the players is a big advantage both in recruitment and retention. The open question with Beamer for me was how being a "player's coach" translates when you become the head coach. Easier to be everyone's buddy when you're not an ultimate decision maker. But he showed this year he can stay positive, run the program, and exceed expectations. The players still seem to be positive on him. Very encouraging, and his style is more in style right now. A lot of upside here.
